Clippers Tell Mike Dunleavy Peace

Hooped Up | March 10, 2010

From the outside looking in, the Clippers organization seems like the greatest reality not produced by Mark Burnett, so nothing I hear about them is remotely shocking anymore. So the fact that Mike Dunleavy (who a real team would have fired ages ago) was fired after being promoted to General Manager a few months back, sounds just about right. Here is the statement the Clippers released after they canned Dunleavy.

“The organization has determined that the goal of building a winning team is best served by making this decision at this time.

“The team has simply not made sufficient progress during Dunleavy’s seven-year tenure. The Clippers want to win now. This transition, in conjunction with a full commitment to dedicate unlimited resources, is designed to accomplish that objective.”

Good grief Charlie Brown. As far as bad jobs go, being apart of the losing machine that is the Clippers front office has got to be up there with passing out flyers, telemarketing and cleaning up after Snoopy. Read More »

Dunleavy Steps Down As Clippers Coach

Hooped Up | February 4, 2010

The Los Angeles Clippers today announced that Head Coach and General Manager Mike Dunleavy will step away from his day to day coaching responsibilities and focus exclusively on the team’s personnel matters. The decision was reached mutually during a meeting at the team’s Playa Vista Training Center earlier today.

In attendance at that meeting were Clippers’ President Andy Roeser, Dunleavy and Assistant General Manager Neil Olshey, who will continue in his role as Dunleavy’s top aide in Basketball Operations.

Current Clippers’ Assistant Coach Kim Hughes will immediately assume the role of Interim Head Coach, and will retain the position through the remainder of the ’09-’10 season.

Mike Dunleavy Could Be Out Till 2010

Hooped Up | April 9, 2009

The injured right knee of Mike Dunleavy, could keep him out for half of next season too.

“The last thing Indiana Pacers coach Jim O’Brien claims to be is a doctor. One thing O’Brien believes, though, is swingman Mike Dunleavy will be out until at least January as he rehabilitates his injured right knee. “Nothing that I’ve heard has Michael coming back anytime before January,” O’Brien said. “It’s not even on my radar, Michael Dunleavy coming back. I have to approach next year like he’s not coming back because you have to build a team.” Dunleavy had surgery to remove a bone spur from his right patellar tendon and then had the tendon repaired last month in Colorado. He said there is no timetable on his return.”

The Pacers just can’t seem to catch a break. But on the bright side, if Dunleavy can’t make it back until 2010 Danny Granger should have an awesome season – again.

Hooped Up: Indiana Pacers 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 25, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 – 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Indiana Pacers
Sheriff Larry Bird is cleaning up the Pacers and former franchise face Jermaine O’Neal is gone. Bird also deleted Jamal Tinsley from the teams Facebook group and pays him to stay away from the team. TJ Ford with a healthy back and a pass first mentality could put up good numbers and Dunleavy, Murphy and Nesterovic help round out a huge Pacers line up. But the main ingredient to this hoosier pie is Danny Granger and his ability to create off the dribble and make his own shots.

Can the Pacers under the watch of Larry Bird improve on last years results?

Projected Starters: PG - TJ Ford / SG - Mike Dunleavy / SF - Danny Granger / PF - Troy Murphy / C -  Rasho Nesterovic

Additions:  T.J. Ford, Jarrett Jack, Eddie Jones, Rasho Nesterovic, Maceo Baston, Josh McRoberts,  Brandon Rush, Roy Hibbert

Losses: Jermaine O’Neal, Shawne Williams, Ike Diogu, Kareem Rush, Flip Murray, Andre Owens, Jerryd Bayless, Nathan Jawai

Projected Wins: 38+

Team Theme Song:  Dr. Dre – The Watcher
Larry Bird is just going to sit back and observe the show this year.  Maybe he’ll make a move later, maybe he won’t. He’s just watching.

Overall
With O’Neal gone, the Indiana Pacers have no real inside banger and this will hurt! The outside game is still alive and very well though. This team might squeak into the playoffs but,  the first round is the ceiling on this bunch. Both  Danny Granger and versatile Mike Dunleavy will grow, TJ Ford will learn why Jose Calderon is better and Larry Bird will really begin to shape his vision for the future.

This isn’t a team on the verge of anything but, a foundation will slowly emerge soon and Pacer fans need to give it time.
