Freshly Dipped: New Balance P790LK

Hooped Up | January 29, 2010

Up until now, Freshly Dipped has never featured any products from New Balance, but that’s about to change with the reloaded release of the classic New Balance P790LK.

Worn by one of my favorite players of all-time James “Big Game” Worthy, the P790LK looks like a true 80’s joint in a Lakers colorway so don’t be surprised if your uncle that grew up with Showtime and has the same size feet as you, “borrows them” for an extended period of time. Watch out nephew!

More looks at New Balance P790LK below.

Scottie Pippen Getting Stomped By Midgets

Hooped Up | January 10, 2010

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

The last time we all saw Scottie Pippen  was around the time Michael Jordan lost his mind giving the worst hall of fame induction speech EVER. Well now, Pippen might have upstaged Jordan in the loco department with his participation in the movie Midgets vs. Mascots.

In fact, his presence in the movie is so weird that he released a statement about his involvement in the flick. Next time, just do a cr@ppy reality show for attention Scottie.

After the jump, read Pippen’s weird @ss press release.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has Leukemia

Hooped Up | November 10, 2009

NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has a rare form of leukemia, but the Lakers legend says his long-term prognosis is very good. Abdul-Jabbar, 62, revealed during an interview Monday that he has Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow that produces cancerous blood cells.

The disease was diagnosed in December. But Abdul-Jabbar said his condition can be managed by taking oral medication daily, seeing his specialist every other month and getting his blood analyzed regularly. He said he expects to lead a healthy life.

Magic Johnson And Isiah Thomas Got Beef

Hooped Up | October 23, 2009

Magic Johnsonin a soon-to-be-released book,Isiah Thomas said he’d had enough. And so he began to fight back.

“I’m really hurt, and I really feel taken advantage of for all these years,” said Thomas. The criticisms are made by Johnson in When the Game Was Ours, which he co-wrote withLarry Birdand authorJackie MacMullan.

Magic addresses years of rumors by finally accusing Thomas of questioning his sexuality after Johnson was diagnosed with HIV in 1991. Magic also admits that he joined withMichael Jordanand other players in blackballing Thomas from the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, saying, “Isiah killed his own chances when it came to the Olympics. Nobody on that team wanted to play with him. … Michael didn’t want to play with him.Scottie[Pippen] wanted no part of him. Bird wasn’t pushing for him.Karl Malonedidn’t want him. Who was saying, ‘We need this guy?’ Nobody.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Forgets On Jeopardy

Hooped Up | October 16, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Alex Trebek can be a tricky bastard at times, because who the hell knows what’s in that Potpourri category ranging from rocket science to famous Phil Collins songs, where that shifty Daily Double is hiding and why does he insist that you answer an answer? With a question. Read More »

Freshly Dipped: K1X Triple Trouble Tee

Hooped Up | October 2, 2009

Wilt Chamberlain holds 72 NBA records, and the one that might be hardest to break is his claimed record one of over 20,000+ women – ”encountered”.  For this to be true, he would have had — “encounters” with 1.14 women per day from the age of 15 up until the day of his death, a rate of almost eight women a week. Penicillin must have been his best friend.

With the Triple Double tee, K1X salutes these industrial strength career numbers.

Check it out in black, after the jump.

Freshly Dipped: Converse Weapon EVO

Hooped Up | September 24, 2009

This fall, Converse will give the 86′ classic Weapon a 2009 upgrade and dub them the “Weapon EVO” and it’s about time!

Made famous by legends Larry Bird who wore the black and white colorway and Magic Johnson who wore the purple and gold colorway. The New Weapon EVO, is available in these old favorite colors with the Bird version calling an audible from white to green trim. The other noticeable upgrade the Weapon EVO makes from it’s ‘86 roots, is providing your foot with way more comfort.

You can also cop these ill kicks in 6 other oldie but goodie colorways in a Fashionista sneaker store near you.

After the jump, my two favorite old school Weapon commercials and a sneak peek at the Bird Weapon EVO.

Top 5: David Robinson Moments

Hooped Up | September 14, 2009

If you said David Robinson is a good dude, you would be 100% right. If you said David Robinson was a team player, you would be 110% right. Of course math nerds from all universe will now e-mail me and tell me that “nobody can be 110% right”, but they haven’t seen “The Admiral” play to see that impossible human effort math equal out.

For a guy that never really played basketball until his senior year in high school because getting an education was his first priority. Robinson blossomed into a Hall of Famer racking up 20,790 points, 10,497 rebounds, 2,954 blocks one MVP trophy and two NBA Championships.

Oh and by the way math guy, David Robinson graduated with a major in Mathematics. So e-mail him about my 110% theory and he’ll explain it to you.

After the jump, the Top 5 moments that defined the career of David Robinson.

Michael Jordan Enters The Hall of Fame

Hooped Up | September 12, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Michael Jordan lead the class of 2009 into the Basketball Hall of Fame a few hours ago. When he took the stage Jordan reflected on his career as one of the best players ever, shared old war stories, talked a whole lotta smack, and even dropped a S-bomb too fast for the censors to catch.

Was his speech epic or arrogant? I personally haven’t decided yet, but what it was for sure was a classic.

Regardless of how Jordan came off, it was nice to see the guy that carried the league post Magic and Bird era, get his final NBA honours, so soak it in.

Jordan’s pre-induction speech earlier in the day after the jump, no cursing though – sorry.
