Magic Sign Jason Williams

Hooped Up | August 19, 2009

The Orlando Magic added depth to their backcourt on Wednesday, signing point guardJason Williams, who did not play last season.

The New York Knicks had claimed Williams off waivers and owned exclusive negotiating rights to him. After working out Williams and entering into talks, however, the two sides could not reach agreement. The Magic then stepped in.

“Jason provides depth and leadership to our backcourt,” Magic general manager Otis Smith said in a statement. “He is a veteran point guard that knows what it takes to help us reach our ultimate goal. We are excited to add him to our team.”

In 10 seasons with Sacramento, Miemphis and Miami, Williams has averaged 11.4 points and 6.3 assists. He was a member of the 2005-06 Heat championship team.

White Chocolate Rain Could Fall In Memphis

Hooped Up | August 12, 2009

The Grizzlies’ bid to reunite with point guard Jason Williams got sweeter recently when the playmaker known as “White Chocolate” visited FedExForum for a workout.

Williams spent Monday talking with and going through basketball drills for Griz owner Michael Heisley, general manager Chris Wallace and members of the coaching staff. The 33-year-old is an unrestricted free agent looking to sign with an NBA team after a year off.

“He looks in great shape,” Heisley said. “I think Jason still has a lot to offer.”

No deal was signed, even though the Griz are believed to want Williams on a short-term, minimum-salary deal.

Sweet NY White Chocolate?

Hooped Up | August 1, 2009

Jason Williams wants back in the league, and he could return as a New York Knick or as a Minnesota Viking — oh, wait that’s Brett Farve.

The Knicks have exclusive negotiating rights to point guardJason Williams – if they want them. The NBA yesterday ruled the Knicks have until Thursday to negotiate exclusively with Williams, who retired in September and then sought to be reinstated in February. He was denied by a vote of the league’s teams and the Clippers, whom he signed with last summer, waived their rights to him last week. The Knicks got the first crack because they had the worst record of the interested teams.

The Knicks have Allen Iverson, Ramon Sessions, Jamaal Tinsley and now Jason Williams as an option to quarterback their team next season. Chris Duhon, welcome back to life as a back up.

Jason Williams Denied Reinstatement

Hooped Up | February 28, 2009

Even the prospects of playing for the now 15 – 44 L.A. Clippers, probably doesn’t look so bad  to Jason Williams right now. The only problem is, the league won’t let White Chocolate play this season. Read More »

Jason Williams Wants Back In

Hooped Up | February 20, 2009

Jason Williams is tired of playing Shuffleboard and Gin every night before his sponge bath and hot diggity dog, he wants back in the NBA!

“The once-flashy veteran point guard, has filed a letter with the NBA to seek immediate reinstatement into the league, an internal NBA memo revealed on Thursday… League executives immediately speculated that Williams could return to the Miami Heat, who he helped win the 2006 NBA championship, or the defending champion Boston Celtics.”

If things go well, we can expect to see this young whipper snapper back in action by the playoffs.

Jason Williams Retires

It was white chocolate in…white chocolate out for Jason Williams as he called it quits and retired from the NBA today according to the Los Angeles Times.  Williams joined the Clippers this summer as a free-agent on a one year deal and never made it to training camp with his new club.

In a 10 year career, Williams played for the Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat winning a championship in 2006.  For his career Williams averaged 11.4 points and 6.3 assists and racket up a ton of highlights especially with the Kings. That crossover on Gary Payton, still makes me hold my head!

Above is a Jason Williams highlight package with the Red Hot Chili Peppers song Californication used for the audio, which I find insanely ironic.

Clippers Sign Jason Williams

Hooped Up | August 8, 2008

Los Angeles’ other team the Clippers, signed Jason “White Chocolate” Williams Thursday to a one-year pact. Williams, 32, averaged 8.8 points and 4.6 assists in 67 games with the Miami Heat last season and will make the Clippers his fourth NBA team.  Although, Williams is a little longer in the tooth since his run and gun (and smoke) Sacromento Kings days. Baron Davis has got to be smiling after this move.  The Clippers will be a track team with Davis and Williams in the backcourt and Camby will be an alley-oop machine.

The Clippers might miss the playoffs again but, man will it be fun to watch them play!
