Hooped Up | February 11, 2010

With the trade deadline fast approaching and every GM doing nothing but saber rattling on making moves thus far.  It’s been NBA commissioner David Stern that’s been doing all the front office shakin’ n bakin’ with regards to player movement — for the all-star game that is.

The Commish has been inserting replacements for the all-star game like an skilled general managing pro for the past two weeks and today after Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson were announced shelved for this weekends festivities. David Lee and Jason Kidd were selected as replacements. Read More »

Dallas Mavericks ‘09-10 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 27, 2009

Another van glorious season of NBA basketball is about to begin and Hooped Up does a quick and dirty preview of all 30 clubs.

The Mavericks reloaded this offseason hoping their championship window hasn’t closed and that’s why they got Shawn Marion. I would love to be as optimistic (or rich) as Mark Cuban is about this squad, but then I’d be living in 2006. Read More »

Jason Kidd Re-Ups With The Mavs

Hooped Up | July 6, 2009

Jason Kidd has agreed to come back to the Mavericks for a three-year contract worth more than $25 million, owner Mark Cuban said Sunday night.

Kidd, 36, whom the Mavericks traded for in February 2008, had been pursued by the New York Knicks, among others, in the free-agent period this summer.

“We are excited to have Jason Kidd back in a Mavs’ uniform,” Cuban said. “He was a major contributor for us last year, and we expect more of the same next year.

“We also are excited to have him tutor [point guards] Roddy Beaubois and J.J. Barea. This is hopefully the first of several deals to come in the next couple weeks.”

Kidd Is A Wanted Man

Hooped Up | June 29, 2009

There will be a new bad guy to deal with when the Mavericksopen their pursuit of re-signing Jason Kidd on Wednesday. The New York Knicks are expected to join the ranks of serious competitors for Kidd’s services for two reasons. First, it is widely known that Kidd has an affinity for New York. He still has a home there and enjoys the area. He played for New Jersey for 6 1/2 seasons before being traded to Dallas in 2008. Secondly, the Knicks are going to start stockpiling assets to help lure LeBron James next summer. Having Kidd as their point guard, even at age 37 in 2010, would be a nice selling point. Wednesday is when teams officially can begin talking to free agents, and Kidd is expected to get overtures from several teams: Cleveland, Portland, Boston, New York and perhaps the Lakers.

Outlet Pass: Magical Kidd, Hansbrough Slides + Snow Released

Hooped Up | April 6, 2009

Jason Kidd had 19 points, a season-high 20 assists and a major career milestone — all in three quarters — sending Dallas to a 140-116 victory over Phoenix on Sunday, virtually assuring the Mavericks of no worse than the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Dallas leads Phoenix by four games with five to play. The Mavericks, who won the season series, hold the tiebreaker over the Suns. Any Dallas win or Phoenix loss clinches a ninth straight postseason trip for the Mavericks and ends a streak of four straight playoff trips for the Suns.

Kidd’s 14th assist gave him 10,142 for his career, passing Magic Johnson for No. 3 on the NBA’s list. Among those who gave him a standing ovation was broadcaster Mark Jackson, who is second with 10,334.

Hope Dworaczyk In A Painted On Kidd Jersey

Hooped Up | March 31, 2009

Thanks Internet! Playboys Miss April Hope Dworaczyk, dated Jason Kidd last year and rumours spread that she was pregnant with Kidd’s fast break gifted offspring. However, a year has passed and she’s about as pregnant as my dad and if you haven’t reached the health unit in school yet, check this out. Contrary to popular pre-health unit belief, it actually takes 9 months of growth in the womb to conceive a child and no Stork is involved in the process. If that shocked you, closer to Christmas I’ll tell you about Santa Claus. You’ll freak.

Anyway, looking at Hope Dworaczyk in a painted on Dallas Mavericks Jason Kidd jersey at the Playboy mansion. I’ve decided that Jason Kidd is officially on the Derek Jeter mack level.  Who’s with me?

Kidd Wants To Retire A Knick

Hooped Up | January 9, 2009

The wear and tear is starting to show on Jason Kidd, but he would be the second best option to Steve Nash to run the D’Antoni offense and nobody hates him in New York. Mark Cuban likes Marbury and he’s fresher, hungrier and has a contract that matches Kidd. So with a very do-able trade option on the available, just how much do the Knicks hate Marbury?

“Jason Kidd, who has told close friends that he would love to finish his career in New York, did not rule out the possibility of signing with the Knicks in July when asked about his future Thursday. “Yeah, why not?” Kidd said. “I’m going to look and see. Coach (Mike D’Antoni) is great. And I got to know him a little bit this summer (at the Olympics).”

Harris Gets Revenge And A Chant

Hooped Up | December 22, 2008

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

The Mavericks are going nowhere fast this year… again but, it was really after they hit the panic button and dealt Devin Harris to the Nets in a package deal to land Jason Kidd, that the second paddle fell out of the Mavs boat gliding up $hit creek. Last Friday Devin Harris and the New Jersey Net fans had a chance to let the visiting Mavs know they goofed an boy did they ever!

The Nets won 121 – 97, and Devin Harris had a stat line of 41 points, 13 assists, 1 chant and sweet revenge.

Could Marbury End Up A Maverick?

Hooped Up | November 17, 2008

It’s 10 games into the new season and the Knicks still haven’t budged on their Marbury stance yet. However, Mavs owner Mark Cuban is a fan of the Knicks point guard and given the right opportunity has said he would be interested in acquired him as a back up to Jason Kidd.

“Mark Cuban held court before the game, and said he understood the Knicks’ decision with Stephon Marbury regarding changing the culture. Cuban also suggested there’d be a number of teams bidding for Marbury’s services when he becomes a free agent. Cuban was a guest on Marbury’s “Stars on Stars” TV show two years ago. Cuban likes him, thinks he’s a smart guy, has always lauded his business acumen from the Starbury sneaker campaign. The struggling Mavs (3-7) could use a deeper bench and a backup for Jason Kidd.”
