Arenas Moves From 0 To 6

Hooped Up | March 12, 2010

Goodbye, “Agent Zero.” Gilbert Arenas is switching his uniform number.

The suspended guard submitted paperwork to go from No. 0 to No. 6, and the NBA approved the change, league spokesman Tim Frank confirmed in an email to The Associated Press on Thursday.

Arenas has worn zero since college, saying he picked that number because that’s how many minutes people expected him to play at Arizona.

Last Friday was the deadline for NBA players to file paperwork seeking a new number. Cavaliers star LeBron James asked to switch from No. 23 to No. 6 next season. Read More »

Arenas Suspended For The Season

Hooped Up | January 27, 2010

From the not so shocking file, Gilbert Arenas was officially suspended for the remained of the 2009-2010 NBA season by his own request to commissioner David Stern after the two met to discuss the all-star guards fate according to the Washington Post.

Arenas also told the commissioner that he would not have the players union fight on his behalf to have the suspension reduced for the incident that occurred in the Wizards locker room. However this probably does not limit his suspension to the remained of the season and his $111 million deal with the Wizards still hangs in the balance.

Arenas also hinted to friends, that he would like to move on from playing for the Washington Wizards and team President Ernie Grunfeld. I don’t know about you, but I still smell some more suspension time coming Arenas’ way at the very least.

Wizards Could Void Arenas’ Contract

Hooped Up | January 19, 2010

I’m all for everybody getting their paper to make a living, but if the Washington Wizards yank Gilbert Arenas’ contract. I really don’t think he’ll end up on the street, and it would be the best deterrent for future would be gunslingers.

To escape paying Gilbert Arenas the rest of his clogging contract — $80.2 million for four years after this season — the Wizards may seek to void the deal, and do so by invoking the morals clause in the uniform player contract under the league’s collective bargaining agreement. The Wizards have distanced themselves from Arenas since the handgun incident, removing his likeness from the Verizon Center and issuing terse statements that could be a precursor to an attempt to void the deal.

Even if the Wizards void his contract, I’m guessing that the players association will file an appeal on his behalf and drag this thing out further. I’m just interesting to see who will still be in the Arenas corner when all the dust settles.

PETA Sticks To Their Guns With Arenas

Hooped Up | January 16, 2010

I really don’t know how to call this one. PETA is a radical organization that goes over the top to protect animal rights and they get positive results through shock value.  I for one really dig that, but do they really need to back Gilbert Arenas to relay their non-violent message?

On the same day Arenas is scheduled to appear in court on weapons charges. PETA has stated that they will stand behind Arenas who is featured in their latest INK NOT MINK poster campaign. Somehow this seems like bad timing though.

What do you guys thing?

Adidas Drops Gilbert Arenas

Hooped Up | January 16, 2010

On the same day that Gilbert Arenas entered a plea of guilty on felony gun charges. Uber sportswear giant Adidas decided to drop Agent Zero as one of their sponsored athletes. Yikes!

Athletic company Adidas said Friday it was dumping longtime endorser Gilbert Arenasof the Washington Wizards following his guilty plea on felony gun charges in Washington, D.C.

Who would have thought bringing four guns to work could cause so much problems??? The way this Arenas deal is being treated from all angles, I fully expect to see him in an orange jumpsuit provided by the state for a few days at the very least when a judge comes to a final decision.

Maybe when this is all over, Arenas can get an endorsement deal with Bad Idea Jeans.

Gilbert Arenas Owned Hundreds Of Guns

Hooped Up | January 13, 2010

In the past I’ve joked about Arenas owning Tonz O’ Gunz, partly because I’m a Gang Starr fan and well — dude had one gun per pocket when the Crittenton stand off happened at the Verizon Center. Little did I know that those four guns was just the tip of the iceberg in Arenas’ arsenal.

“As a grand jury continues to hear the details of the gun incident involving Gilbert Arenas, WTOP has learned the Washington Wizards’ star has — at times — owned several hundred guns.

Okay, I understand an Americans right to own a gun and blah, blah, blah. But to me, if I have a

Multiple sources tell WTOP that Arenas moved those weapons out of his Virginia home within the past year, long before the incident at the Verizon Center. By all accounts, the guns in Arenas’ collection were legally owned, yet it’s unclear how many he actually owned or still owns.”

Sure, I understand an Americans right to bar arms and blah, blah, blah. But who gave Arenas the right to have a travelling road show to display his weapons collection? This situation is going from terrible to super terrible each day and I’m really starting to doubt the possibility of Arenas playing NBA basketball in 2010. What a mess.

With Gilbert Arenas finally suspended, his banner removed from the Verizon Center and Commissioner David Stern releasing an official statement about the Wizards gun issue. The only thing left was an apology from the Wizards to the fans and captain Antawn Jamison took care of that by addresses the crowd about the recent events before Washington D.C. faced the Orlando Magic.

Stay classy Antawn Jamision!

Wizards Remove Giant Arenas Banner

Hooped Up | January 8, 2010

Damn son, in the after math of Gilbert and his Tonz O Gunz suspension. First he axed his Twitter account, and now the Wizards have removed the humongo Agent Zero banner outside the Verizion Center that had the words “Character, Commitment, Connection” across it with his image.

The next domino to fall has got to be half price Arenas jerseys at Footlocker.

Crittenton Had A Cocked And Loaded Gun

Hooped Up | January 7, 2010

This Wizards gun deally is just getting from bad to worse as more details come to light. WTF!

The two players had been arguing during a card game on the Wizards’ flight back from Phoenix Dec. 19, and the dispute spilled into the team locker room at Verizon Center before practice two days later. Arenas has acknowledged bringing his handguns to the arena and displaying them in the locker room that morning in what he maintained was a playful gesture aimed at his teammate. According to two first-hand accounts of the confrontation, Crittenton responded to Arenas’s action — which included laying the four unloaded weapons in Crittenton’s cubicle with a note that read, “Pick One” — by brandishing his own firearm, loading the gun and chambering a round.

Seriously, if Jarvis Crittenton plays in anything more than a basketball beer league when this is all said and done I’d be surprised. The NBA is a money making entity so I get that somebody hungry to fill the stands will give Arenas another shot in the league. However, I have never heard of anybody wanting to see Crittenton play because I don’t know his family.

Arenas is probably going to get a year off minimum for his actions, so what the heck will Crittenton get is now the burning question.

Ironically, the failed “funny” prank Gilbert Arenas played on Jarvis Crittenton did produced some hilarity after all. Check out the funniest reenactment of the Arenas vs. Crittenton card game you will ever see in your audit fearing life and yes, please put down the guns and don’t be stupid.
