Homer News: Dallas Mavericks (32-20)

Hooped Up | February 16, 2010

Mavericks president: We’re ready to compete against Lakers
A seven-player weekend trade brought two-time All-Star guard Caron Butler, 7-foot center Brendan Haywood and guard DeShawn Stevenson to Dallas from Washington. Often promising and disappointing Josh Howard was sent with Drew Gooden and two others to the Wizards.

“This gives us a real chance to do some damage in the West,” said Donnie Nelson, the Mavericks’ president of basketball operations. “It’s like a nuclear arms race out here. From top to bottom, there’s 11 that look like they’re viable and eight that are going to make it. But we feel [the trade] gives us a real chance to take this next step.’

“Now I don’t know how many of you out there are going to pick us in a seven-game series against the Lakers, but in our opinion the guys in that locker room, we’re ready to lock horns with anybody. We feel like this solidifies us a little bit.”

Wizards and Mavs Swing A Seven Player Deal

Hooped Up | February 14, 2010

The Dallas Mavericks acquired Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood from Washington on Saturday, a seven-player deal that strengthens them for a playoff run and signals the breakup of a disappointing Wizards team.

The Mavericks dealt forwards Josh Howard and Drew Gooden, and two other players to the Wizards. Dallas also got guard DeShawn Stevenson and cash considerations. Read More »

Hey DeShawn Stevenson, Really?

Hooped Up | January 12, 2010

As a tribute to teammate Gilbert Arenas getting removed from the Washington Wizards for being a “funny guy“. DeShawn Stevenson decided to pay homage to “Agent Zero” by taping those very words to his socks as seen above. Classy!

This can only mean that Stevenson getting a Hibachi tattoo on his forehead this off season is not too far behind.

DeShawn Stevenson’s Throat Seems Honest

Hooped Up | September 29, 2009

DeShawn Stevenson seemed like a pretty impulsive dude when a Tattoo Gun is in front or him when I saw his number 2 tattoo, but now it’s official. Stevenson will tattoo damn near anything on his body.

Yesterday, Stevenson showed up for the Wizards media day and dude had some awesome new impulsive Tatts. He had a Frankenstein crack near his hairline, because he doesn’t crack??? A backwards Pittsburgh Pirates “P” on his right cheek, because that’s his favorite team, duh.

And to top it off, he had a picture of Abe Lincoln on his throat. No word on why the 16th President got canvas room on Stevenson’s throat yet, but I believe when he’s ready to talk about it.

It’ll be the truth, because now his throat seems honest.

Deshawn Stevenson Really Likes The #2

Hooped Up | January 2, 2009

Deshawn Stevenson really likes the number 2 a lot and he has the huge back tattoo to prove it.  I wish I had more to say regarding this bad idea numerically inspired tattoo but, the deuce on Stephenson’s back kinda speaks for itself.

Anyway a la Leonard Shelby, DeShawn Stevenson now has a permanent reminder of who he is.

Stevenson Visited By Three Ghosts

Hooped Up | December 23, 2008

Just in time for the holidays, DeShawn Stevenson decided to give back to the bench warmers by offering up his starting spot. I bet one of the ghosts that visited Stevenson the night before he made that decision was Eddie Jordan…What?…To soon?

“Shooting guard DeShawn Stevenson came to coach Ed Tapscott today and told him that maybe it’s best for the team that he move out of the starting lineup. Stevenson, who holds the second-longest starting streak (275 games) in the NBA, went scoreless in 15 minutes of play last night. And for the season, he’s averaging just 7.6 points on 31 percent shooting. Tapscott called Stevenson’s move gracious and selfless.”

DeShawn Stevenson: The Usher Impersonator

Hooped Up | September 16, 2008

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Delivered to your digital doorstep is DeShawn Stevenson aka the Usher impersonator. He can’t sing so he doesn’t which should be applauded and unlike every Usher performance the shirt actually stays on, which should also be applauded.

Channeling his inner Ashlee Simpson,  Stevenson delivers a lip syncing YouTube jem, from one of the studios probably located at the lebronjames750 world headquarters.

Enjoy!

Jay-Z Finally Speaks On Stevenson Dis Track

Hooped Up | September 15, 2008

Jay-Z  sat down with VIBE magazine to discussed his dis/motivational track “Blow The Whistle” about the on court feud between LeBron James and DeShawn Stevenson that sparked when the Cavaliers and Wizards met in the playoffs this year. Stevenson claimed to the media that LeBron James is overrated, prompting James to say that he wouldn’t return the insult, as that would be “almost like Jay-Z  responding to a negative comment made by Soulja Boy.”

It was at this point Jay-Z responded on behalf of LeBron James about the overrated comment made by Deshawn Stevenson with the “Blow The Whistle” track. Soulja boy then got involved, but that story is like a tale of the man that brought a pebble to a machine gun fight. Here’s what Jay-Z had to say about the whole thing.

“I had no intention to talk about the DeShawn Stevenson thing,” Jay-Z said in an interview with Vibe. “I seen him beatin’ the [expletive] out of LeBron, and he really couldn’t do nothing. I really wanted to inspire [LeBron]. I sent him the ["Blow The Whistle (freestyle)"]. The song wasn’t to be released.”

“I sent him the song to get him amped up. I do [expletive] like that. I hit him on the BlackBerry all the way through the playoffs. There’s a big trail of e-mails that we have where I’m almost like a coach on the sidelines for him ’cause…that’s my little brother! I’m giving him advice, even outside of ‘Take the ball to the elbow and shoot.’ The psychology of what’s going on: That’s my role in his life.”

Hooped Up | April 26, 2008

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

In the ongoing LeBron James DeShawn Stevenson beef, Jay Z responds to Stevenson’s LeBron Is Overrated comments. As part owner of the Nets, Jay Z is certainly working all the angles for a free agent LeBron James in 2010.
