The Suns Need A Player

Hooped Up | December 18, 2008

The Suns need a player but I haven’t received a call yet, which is kinda confusing but that’s cool. I understand that this is part of the business. However,  I would like to call out all the players on the Suns radar to a Battle Royal, and the winner takes the open spot.

But when they see me make my way to the squared circle with Jimmy Hart, it’ll be the last chance to run! OOOH YEAH!!!

“The Suns have until Wednesday to sign a player, likely a point guard, and reach the 13-player roster minimum. Suns General Manager Steve Kerr scouted an NBA Development League game involving Eddie Gill and Smush Parker on Tuesday. The Suns have an eye on other options in the D-League, where Walker Russell Jr. is the leading assist man. Suns Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin is organizing a Monday workout for four to six point guards. The group will include a mix of D-League and ex-NBA players, possibly including Troy Hudson and Damon Stoudamire.”

Spurs Add Another Stoudamire

Hooped Up | September 22, 2008

The cousin connection in the Spurs backcourt is now official as San Antonio signs Damon’s cousin.

“Salim Stoudamire has escaped pro basketball’s burial grounds — the Atlanta Hawks — and now will play for a winner. The ex-Wildcat shooting star has signed with the San Antonio Spurs and is expected to replace the three-point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry. In three years with the dismal Hawks, Stoudamire averaged just 17 minutes per game and was often slowed by a chronic ankle injury. His career average is eight points per game.”

Stoudamire To Spurs

Hooped Up | January 31, 2008

Damon Stoudamire will sign a pro-rated contract with the Spurs as early as Thursday, after two conversations with Suns general manager Steve Kerr within the past 24 hours led nowhere. “We spoke to him. He understands what we had to offer and he felt San Antonio was the better opportunity,” Kerr said.

Stoudamire Soon To Be Free

Hooped Up | January 28, 2008

Soon-to-be free agent point guard Damon Stoudamire said yesterday that it would be “dumb” not to seriously consider the Celtics if they wanted him.

Stoudamire’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, confirmed yesterday that his client has agreed in principle to a buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies, expected to become official tomorrow. While terms were not disclosed, Stoudamire was guaranteed $2.1 million this season and $2.3 million next season, excluding bonuses.

Stoudamire acknowledged yesterday that the Celtics, Suns, and Raptors are among the teams expected to have interest in him. The 5-foot-10-inch, 171-pounder could be an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after clearing waivers.

A Mighty Return?

Hooped Up | January 24, 2008

Damon Stoudamire, according to NBA front-office sources, is intrigued by the idea of signing with the Toronto Raptors and returning to the franchise that drafted him and gave him the platform to win Rookie of the Year honors in 1995-96.

Mighty Mouse A Fit In Phoenix?

Hooped Up | January 15, 2008

If Memphis’ Damon Stoudamire reaches a buyout agreement with Memphis, it seems likely the Suns would be interested in him. It would not be costly. He likely would sign with a contender for a pro-rated veteran’s minimum.

Stoudamire, 34, could give Phoenix a good open-court point guard who shoots well and is a vocal, veteran leader. He is also an ex-Portland teammate of Suns’ GM Steve Kerr, and both played at Arizona.

Mighty Oust

Hooped Up | January 4, 2008

Grizzlies veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire will seek a trade or contract buyout, his agent said Thursday. Stoudamire was removed from the starting lineup in favor of first-round draft pick Mike Conley. Stoudamire was on the inactive list for the Grizzlies’ victory Wednesday over Indiana. Aaron Goodwin, an experienced NBA agent with a star-studded client list, called the decision to relegate Stoudamire to an insurance player at the point unacceptable and disrespectful.
