March Madness Tips With Nick Swardson

Hooped Up | March 20, 2010

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

After just one day into the NCAA tournament, your March Madness bracket picks are probably lining a birdcage and all the money you were planing on winning from your office pool went up in smoke like the idea of Billy Donovan coaching the Orlando Magic.

However, if you made it out of the first round unscathed you’ll need help to survive the madness of March into the late rounds and comedian Nick Swardson can help you do that.

More March Madness tips from Nick Swardson after the jump.

Served: Pre-March Madness Dunks Get Got

Hooped Up | March 16, 2010

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Greeting us all like a collage of smells waiting when you step off an apartment building elevator. The smell of March Madness is in the air and it’s unavoidable, but in a good way.

I definitely don’t watch enough college basketball these days to tell you who’s winning this tournament, but I do know that Marqus Blakely from Vermont  will dunk on you without prejudice as he did to this kid from Boston University in the America East championship game. The soundtrack to this video, makes this dunk even better!

If you liked that educated dunk, you’ll love the one after the jump.

I’m In Punch-Dunk Love With Brittney Griner’s Game

Hooped Up | March 4, 2010

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

The last time I saw Britteny Griner was when she straight dunked on someone in high school and now she’s in college posting triple-doubles, dunking and now punching defenders that try to treat her like a red-headed orphan named Annie on the low block. Too bad Texas Tech’s Jordan Barncastle found out that last part the hard way.

Of course this makes it official, that I am now in love with the way this girl plays ball.

Freshly Dipped: Air Jordan 2010 Silver Collection

Hooped Up | February 25, 2010

Michael Jordan has been retired from the NBA for nearly 7 seasons, is now 47 years young and still shaves his head. So it’s possible he could have a shock of silver running through his fro if he grew it out, but his 25th anniversary collection is definitely silver.

The Jordan 2010 kicks have been making its web rounds over the last few months and now they are going back to college, complete with uniforms to match them in a hover car futuristic silver colorway.  North Carolina, Georgetown and Cal will all model the collection and who knows, Marcus Jordan might just do his own thing for University of Central Florida.

Yesterday, Jordan’s alma mater UNC wore the complete 2010 Silver Anniversary uniform versus Florida State; tonight, Cal will wear them against Arizona; and Saturday, Georgetown will wear them against Notre Dame.

Peep the silvery goods below.

Served: Some College Shine Gets Got Son

The All-Star game is over and tonight the NBA jumps into the sexy second part of the schedule after a little break. I know you’ve been dunk deprived, so in the meantime watch this kid Isaiah Armwood Dunk from Villanova on Alex Oriakhi from UConn.

Sure, he probably gets paid less than most pro guys, but that doesn’t mean he dunks any less softer.

Vince Carter Kills It At The UNC Alumni Game

Hooped Up | September 9, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

The University of North Carolina’s basketball program has been hoarding great high school players for themselves since 1910 and they decided to celebrate making your favorite school a top prospects distant second option by having an Alumni game. As usual, Chapel Hill was packed because basketball action was promised and Tar Heels of Christmas past were in attendance to put on a show to celebrate 100 years of UNC college basketball dominance.

But that show both began and ended with Vince Carter killin’ it like he was fresh out of  Mainland High School, lookin’ mad spry!

Memphis Mess Should Not Hurt Derrick Rose

Hooped Up | August 22, 2009

Admittedly this is not going to be a good week for Derrick Rose, with word that the University of Memphis will surrender its Final Four season. Because of improprieties from Rose’s SATs and travel benefits given to his brother, Rose will be in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. However that’s not going to change something somewhat surprising — Derrick Rose is one of the top brands in basketball. Industry sources explained this week that of all the NBA players Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose are the most effective endorsers of products, especially in the shoe market. Word is adidas will be unloading around Derrick this season with commercials and specialty products to feed the growing hunger for all things Rose.

Served: Stackhouse Gets Got By Wall

Hooped Up | August 10, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Truth be told, I really only start watching college basketball games when the conference tournaments begin. However, if there’s a player that looks NBA ready, I’ll do my best to catch more than a few of their games pre-tourney time before the draft buzz peaks.

So after watching Kentucky Wildcat John Wall cram this offering of Spalding pie down the throat of a team-less Jerry Stackhouse at the Greater North Carolina Pro-Am summer league. John Wall has become must see TV in my household.

Golly, you got served Mr. Stackhouse!

More John Wall doing what he does after the jump.

Born Ready Is College Ready

Hooped Up | July 1, 2009

You might not now the name yet, but former high school star Lance Stephenson aka “Born Ready” is going to be a Bearcat before he makes his way to the NBA.

“The former Lincoln basketball star whose future has been complicated by a sexual harassment case and questions about his amateur status, has ended months of speculation by finally deciding on a college. A family source said Tuesday that Stephenson intends to suit up for the University of Cincinnati, the school he and his family visited over the weekend.

“Unless something out of their control happens, he’s going to Cincinnati,” the source said. Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin, who is no stranger to the Lincoln program, said Stephenson signed a financial aid agreement with the Bearcats and expects Stephenson to attend summer school.”

See why NBA scouts are excited after the jump.
