Chris Wilcox Joins The Pistons

Hooped Up | July 20, 2009

The forging of the new look Detroit Pistons continued over the weekend and interior banger Chris Wilcox will now call “The D”, his home.

Of the big men bandied about as possibilities for the Pistons’ remaining $3.2 million to spend on the open market, Chris Wilcox is probably the most intriguing.

So it’s not surprising that the 6-foot-10 center/power forward has agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with the Pistons. When Wilcox comes to Detroit, he will likely battle with Kwame Brown for the starting center spot.

The Pistons were interested in restricted free agent Glen Davis, but the likelihood of the Celtics matching any offer the Pistons could muster apparently scared them off.

While the addition of young Chris Wilcox is a good thing, I still have no idea what Joe Dumars’ objective is in building this squad. What will be this teams calling card? Defense, offense, the fast break, depth??? Who knows, but with this bunch I’m curious as heck to find out.

The Lakers Need A Big

Hooped Up | July 16, 2009

So where will the Lakers turn to now that they have pulled the deals they offered to Lamar Odom off the table? TheLakers could do a sign-and-trade for Odom, or trade another player to get a quality player. The Lakers probably will look for a big man, someone who can play backup power forward and center. Players such as Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and Drew Gooden fit that mold and are still available, but probably will get the mid-level exception or a portion of it. Stromile Swift,Sean May, Jarron Collins, Sheldon Williams, Mikki Moore, Ike Diogu, Tim Thomas, Juwan Howard and former Laker Chris Mihm could be possibilities for the Lakers.

NBA Players Ban Together To Help Jasmina

Hooped Up | March 6, 2009

A great story from Alan Hahn of The Knicks Fix, about a few NBA players getting together to save a small girls life.

Chris Wilcox has a new friend named Jasmina. She just turned 6 years old today (same age as my son, Zach) and aside from being adorable, she has leukemia. She has a rare and agressive form of it, which was diagnosed on Jan. 20. Her doctors say she needs a bone marrow transplant now or Jasmina will die.

Chris met Jasmina last week, when he visited her in the hospital with a Build-A-Bear. She has her own website, oneforjasmina.com, which I encourage you all to visit.

“I have a sister who suffers from Lupus so, unfortunately, she is in and out of the hospital and has undergone chemotherapy,” he said. “I just can’t bear to see a six year old who literally could die if we don’t find her a match soon.”

What Jasmina desperately needs is a bone marrow donor. The issue is, Jasmina was adopted so she does not have any full siblings, which would provide the needed perfect match. Dr. William L. Carroll, Jasmina’s doctor at NYU Medical Center, said the situation is even more of a challenge because, “African-Americans are under-represented in the donor base thus finding the perfect match even harder.”

“It’s not an organ that she needs, it is blood cells,” Wilcox said. “It could be any one of us that could save her life.”

Chris Wilcox Traded To The Knicks

Hooped Up | February 19, 2009

Chris Wilcox is on the road again and this time it’s to the New York Knicks in exchange for Malik Rose and cash.

Don’t hold your breath though. This is the second time this week the OKC Thunder have dealt Chris Wilcox and the first time, it didn’t work out because Tyson Chandler couldn’t pass his physical.

This means that 100% of the OKC Thunder trades involving Chris Wilcox have failed so far and since the economy is so bad, Cash might not pass the physical to rescind this trade too.

Tyson, No Hard Feelings — Right Baby?

Hooped Up | February 19, 2009

The debate for who gets Tyson Chandler’s old locker in New Orleans is over because as it turns out, he’ll be needing it — again.

Trades being rescinded are as rare as a third nipple, but you can go ahead and hit Crtl + Z / Apple + Z on the deal that had blogger Tyson Chandler in exchange for Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and the draft rights to Devon Hardin, the 50th overall pick in the 2008 draft. Read More »

Hornets Trade Tyson Chandler To Thunder

Hooped Up | February 17, 2009

The New Orleans Hornets have decided to part ways with center / blogger Tyson Chandler in exchange for Chris Wilcox, Joe Smith and the draft rights to Devon Hardin, the 50th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Chandler is averaging 8.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 32 games, down from last year’s averages of 11.8 points and 11.7 rebounds.

Chris Wilcox was averaging 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 37 games for the Thunder and Joe  Smith averaging 6.6 points and 4.5 boards in 36 games this season.

Wilcox Out Two Weeks

Hooped Up | December 12, 2008

Not that anything can help the Thunder at this point, but losing Chris Wilcox for an extended period of time can’t be good.

“Oklahoma City Thunder forward Chris Wilcox will be sidelined as much as two weeks because of a dislocated ring finger on his left hand.

Wilcox, 26, suffered the injury midway through the first quarter of Wednesday’s 108-102 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies at the Ford Center.

Physicians later re-set the finger at the McBride Clinic Orthopedic Hospital in downtown Oklahoma City.”

Hooped Up: Oklahoma City Thunder 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 8, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 – 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Oklahoma City Thunder
Seattle losing a team just plain sucks and they will probably have 3.4 million people in Seattle putting a hex on them in OKC. They are not terrible, but they are not better than below average either…uh, ya.  They aren’t 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers 9 wins and 73 losses bad, but it will be a tough season and a lottery pick is already on the way.  On the upside, Kevin Durant will get some serious baptism under fire and Chris Wilcox might get the work load needed to become Ben Wallace with offense. On the down side, Clay Bennett sucks, the logo is terrible and that’s just for starters.

Projected Starters: PG - Earl Watson / SG - Kevin Durant / SF - Desmond Mason / PF - Chris Wilcox / C -  Nick Collinson

Additions: D.J. White, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka, Kyle Weaver, Devon Hardin, Joe Smith, Desmond Mason

Losses: Francisco Elson, Luke Ridnour, Adrian Griffin, Donyell Marshall

Projected Wins: 10+

Team Theme Song:  The Shirelles – Mama Said
It will be a long and tough season for the players and fans, mama knows!

Overall
The three point shooting of the Thunder is so horrible! Only 4 players on the roster have made one and defensively, they almost give up the most in the league.  This season will be as scary as Robert Swift and the Thunder are destine for a few million lottery balls.  It will be good to see the NBA in a new city but, its to bad that it came at the expense of losing the Seattle Supersonics.

Wilcox Arrested On Concealed-Weapon Charges

Hooped Up | June 5, 2008

This will be an interesting off season to say the least!

Sonics forward Chris Wilcox was arrested on Saturday in North Carolina and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, Percy Allen of the Seattle Times is reporting.

“Chris has made us aware of the situation,” Sonics spokesman Tom Savage said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and we’ll have further comment at the appropriate time.”

It is believed that Wilcox was a passenger in the car, with the driver also charged on the same charges.

Wilcox To Start

Hooped Up | January 26, 2008

Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said at Friday’s shoot-around that Chris Wilcox will return to the starting lineup and Nick Collison will return to the bench tonight against the Atlanta Hawks. Carlesimo said he believes Wilcox is back in shape but has had trouble mentally adjusting to being a reserve.
