Freshly Dipped: Air Lebron VII Yankees Edition

Hooped Up | November 9, 2009

Last Friday, LeBron James and the Cavaliers came to New York to battle the turbo-terrible Knicks and LeBron-A-Polooza was in full effect. Celebrities-O-Plenty were in attendance in MSG to take in the destruction of the Knicks and that included the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees, the Kings favorite team.

To show his updated love for the Yanks and their 27th World Series title. LeBron and Nike put together these Yankee’d Up, Air LeBron VII’s. If King James leaves Cleveland don’t blame, the Cavs — blame the Indians.

Check them out after the jump.

Former Yankees Great Bernie Williams Will Perform At The Knicks Game Tonight

Hooped Up | November 6, 2009

According to the Wall Street Journal, former Yankees World Series champion and multiple time all-star Bernie Williams will be performing the national anthem at the Knicks vs.Cavs game tonight at Madison Square Garden.

If you’re expecting a Carl Lewis like performance, think again. Williams is a very accomplished guitarist who yesterday was nominated for a Latin Grammy for his single “Go For It” , which was No.1 on the Billboard Jazz charts in August. Several Yankees from this years World Series squad will also be in attendance so it looks like LeBron James will be able to partake in the Yankee festivities after all.

Jameer Nelson Goes Yard

Hooped Up | August 21, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

As it turns out, Jameer Nelson can drain the longball and also hit the longball. Yesterday, Nelson who is a Chester, PA native and a few of his Magic teammates showed up at Citizens Bank Park before the Phillies vs. Diamondbacks game for a little team bonding road trip.

Before the Phillies put the hurt on the D-Backs 12 – 3, Jameer Nelson put the hurt on a baseball going yard in batting practice. Rafer Alston couldn’t do that.

Shaq Challenges Albert Pujols

Hooped Up | August 13, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Can Shaquille O’Neal out hit Albert Pujols? Of course not, dumb@ss, but Shaq’s attempt to try could make for some good TV time that advertisers can use to peddle their crap for 30 second repeatedly.

Of course as you know, or may not know or even care to know about. Shaq has a reality show premiering at 8 p.m. on August 18 called Shaq VS. where he’ll challenge other pro athletes at their own sport to test his athletic mettle. During his visit to St.Louis, O’Neal and the Cardinal great Pujols met up at the Four Seasons hotel to discuss Shaq’s slugging challenge.

Might I just add, challenging Albert Pujols in any aspect of baseball is like challenging a Lion in a Zebra eating contest.

LeBron James Baseball’s Silent Film Maker

Hooped Up | April 1, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

After this news, the Cleveland Browns could definitely use another wide receiver, pronto and LeBron James has already proven he could fill that void. Dream sequence or no dream sequence. But now LeBron James has added another skill to his athletic resume, 1920’s silent film maker.

Okay, maybe it’s not athletic but as you can see from the video above, King James handles an imaginary Rolleiflex camera with mad skill. Read More »

Chipper Can Eat It And Happy B-Day Chris Bosh

Hooped Up | March 20, 2009

Recently, team USA third baseman and poutine face Chipper Jones sounded off on Toronto during his stay for the World Baseball Classic this week and said:

“We stayed in Toronto for a week and played three games. I don’t know if you ever stayed in Toronto, but it’s not exactly Las Vegas,” the Braves star told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “To say that we were plucking our eyebrows out one at a time would be an understatement.”

Chris Bosh who has “survived” Toronto for more than 6 seasons as a member of the Raptors, then chimed in on Chipper’s comments saying.

“Me and Chipper should have hung out,” Bosh said at the Raptors’ practice on Wednesday. “He should have called me. I’d have shown him a good time.” [...] ”I have fun. I have a blast every day,” Bosh said. “You have got to feel good to go outside. If you’re going to go somewhere, the clouds kind of make you lazy.

“He’s in Atlanta, and [baseball players] do spring training down there [in Florida and Arizona], and it’s colder here. They’re not used to that.” [..] ”You have got museums, restaurants, clubs if you want to go out at night,” Bosh said. “There’s anything you want to do, shopping. That’s what I like to do.”

Eric Smith from the Fan 590 who covers the Raptors might have said it best. “You have to be a social invalid to not be able to find something to do in Toronto” and I so agree. Unless your some kinda gentlemen club hatin’, multi-ethnic food dodgin’, no arts havin’, low down pub hater — the experience of visiting Toronto can be like plucking out your eyebrows — for you and the sisters of your congregation Father Jones.

Anyway, Chris Bosh will be celebrating his 25th b-day this weekend in the Big Smoke and knowing Chris, (which I don’t) he’ll probably be nice enough to talk to the common folk in attendance.  Sadly, Chipper Jones won’t be able to make it because he’s busy getting a spray tan, and frosting his tips to go along with his freshly plucked eyebrows.
