Homer News: Cleveland Cavaliers (47-14)

Hooped Up | March 2, 2010

Cleveland Cavaliers deliver a thorough throttling of the ‘wait ’til next year’ Knicks, 124-93
Ultimately salary cap space doesn’t show up in the box score. That’s a lesson that the Knicks have been swallowing just about every night for the last two years and they took it again Monday night one more time from a team they would dearly love to plunder. Looking like a collection of guys playing out the string of their contracts, the New York Knicks were throttled by the Cavs, 124-93.

It was a three-game season series sweep for the Cavs (47-14), who collected their fourth straight win and eighth in row against the Knicks (20-39) dating back two seasons.

Antawn Jamison Apologizes To The Fans

With Gilbert Arenas finally suspended, his banner removed from the Verizon Center and Commissioner David Stern releasing an official statement about the Wizards gun issue. The only thing left was an apology from the Wizards to the fans and captain Antawn Jamison took care of that by addresses the crowd about the recent events before Washington D.C. faced the Orlando Magic.

Stay classy Antawn Jamision!

Antawn Jamison Gone Till November

Hooped Up | October 23, 2009

All Wyclef tracks aside, Antawn Jamison will be on the shelf longer than expected as it was revealed that the All-Star forward will be sidelined for at least three to five weeks, due to a right shoulder injury.

“He’s really ahead of where we anticipated, but we’re being really conservative right now,” Coach Flip Saunders said on Friday, after the Wizards completed shootaround for their preseason finale against the Chicago Bulls. “We’re going to be patient with him. We don’t want to take any chances. We want to make sure that thing is right and fully healed.”

The season hasn’t even began and the Washington Wizards are already in the trouble, if Jamison can’t heal sooner. With the Cavaliers, Celtics and Orlando sure to lock down the first three seeds in the playoffs, no team can afford to lose ground on the fourth seed this early.

Jamison Injures His Shoulder

Hooped Up | October 15, 2009

Antawn Jamison didn’t even bother reaching for his right shoulder. He knew he was in trouble. Once he slapped down on Cleveland Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jamison leaned his side, lowered his head and scooted directly toward the Washington Wizards bench, angrily tossing aside his mouthpiece. Head athletic trainer Eric Waters quickly escorted the two-time all-star to the locker room and Jamison was done for the evening.

The Wizards defeated the rival Cavaliers, 109-104, in an exhibition game on Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena, but the mood was dampened with concerns over Jamison, who left the building with his arm secured by a sling. Jamison will have an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury, but the team is listing it as a sprained right shoulder.

The Wizards Are Ready

Hooped Up | August 26, 2009

The Wizards’ roster now has 14 players, and Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said he doesn’t expect to make any more roster changes between now and training camp. “In all likelihood, these are the players we are going into camp with, unless something very interesting comes along from a trade standpoint,” Grunfeld said. “I’m always motivated to put the best possible team out there. Last year was the toughest year of my professional career as a general manager. It was very hard for everybody in our organization. We knew what the reasons were for the season, but it didn’t make it any easier. We’re excited about this upcoming season and we’re probably as talented as we’ve been since we’ve been here, for sure.”

Jamison To Cleveland?

Hooped Up | June 18, 2009

The Orlando Magic proved that the Cavaliers need a big mobile forward with active legs and Antawn Jamison fits that description perfectly. Now can the Cavs and Wiz make a deal?

While plenty of media outlets are speculating about a potential deal between Cleveland and Phoenix, we’ve heard some talk of a possible trade between Cleveland and Washington actually. The deal would essentially be a cost-cutting move for the Wizards, sending Antawn Jamison and filler (Mike James) to the Cavs for Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic. Wallace seems likely to retire, and Pavlovic is on a non-guaranteed contract for next season. It’s not clear whether the Wizards would need to surrender the #5 pick.

I have no idea why the Wizards would want to do this trade, but if Cleveland can make this deal happen it would be on par with and maybe even slightly better than landing Shaq.

Jamison Might Be A No Go Tonight

Hooped Up | December 19, 2008

Not that it matters for one of the worst teams in the league right now, but the quiet double-double machine Antawn Jamison could be a no go for tonight’s contest against the Philadelphia 76ers.

“Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison had an MRI done on the left thumb that he injured in Wednesday night’s 88-74 loss at Detroit and learned that he has a strain but no further structural damage.

“I’ve had fingers and knuckles jammed, but this was kind of different,” Jamison said. “It kind of bent it back and jammed it in. It’s really sore.”
