Homer News: Portland Trail Blazers (39-28)

Hooped Up | March 12, 2010

Trail Blazers end nine-game losing streak in Golden State with 110-105 win behind 41 points from Brandon Roy
An incredible streak was done in by an incredible comeback Thursday by the Trail Blazers.

Led by a determined and playground-tough 41 points from Brandon Roy, and a whirlwind 17-3 run to close the game, the Blazers overcame a 13-point fourth quarter deficit and beat Golden State 110-105, ending a nine-game losing streak at Oracle Arena.

“It’s over,’’ a smiling coach Nate McMillan said, referring to the streak. “But I’m a lot happier about what we did: we followed the game plan and executed.’’

The Blazers wanted to take advantage of their size to score inside and get to the free throw line and they succeeded at both. Portland had 53 rebounds, including a season-high 22 offensive rebounds that led to 29 second-chance points. The Blazers also hit 31-of-37 free throws; Golden State made 19-of-21…

The best season of his career was in 2007-08 when he averaged 6.9 points per game and 3.8 assists per game.Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said he’s happy to have Diener on the roster.

Real Madrid Wants Rudy Fernandez

Hooped Up | February 24, 2010

Real Madrid likes the idea of Rudy Fernandez returning to Spain and Fernandez kinda likes the idea too according to Marca.com. Currently the Spanish international player is suffering from a drop in playing time, health and stats this year with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Right now I don’t rule out anything because I just want to play. I don’t mind where,” said Fernandez, whose name has already been linked to Real Madrid.”Last year we had a different team and at least I had Sergio, who understood my game. I have noticed a change this year. I don’t get the ball as much and the system is different.”

Honestly, if Rudy Fernandez thinks he’s going to get any more playing time in front of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Raúl, Karim Benzema he’s kidding himself. Plus Rubén Gago will never give up his number.

Seriously, what is he thinking???

Wolf Moon Miller Drops 52 Points

Hooped Up | January 31, 2010

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

Weird things always happen when it’s a full moon. Refereed to as the wolf moon in Native American culture, yesterday was the first full moon of 2010 and it was 30% brighter and 14% larger than any other moon we’ll see in 2010. In fact it was so bright that you could actually see Mars.

Last night, Andre Miller was also larger and brighter taking full advantage of the wolf moon by dropping 24% more points than he’s averaged season, netting a hairy career-high 52 points in a win against the Mavs 114-112.

Since I doubt that Miller will eclipse this career-high to blow this correlation.  From now on, Andre Miller’s new nickname to me will be Wolf Moon.

Respect his game and his mane.

Greg Oden Apologizes To Fans For Photos

Hooped Up | January 27, 2010

If you haven’t seen or heard about it yet, get a better Internet provider. Due to some jilted ex-girlfriend of oft-injured Greg Oden, pictures of the Trail Blazers center taking nude pics of himself in the mirror set the Internet ablaze and now has the 1st overall pick in the 2007 draft apologizing to the RipCity faithful.

“I would like to apologize to everybody: Portland, the fans, the organization,” Oden told reporters at the Blazers practice facility. “It was very embarrassing.”

Judging by the photos, somehow I believe the female fans of Portland have already forgiven Oden for sharing.

Brandon Roy Listed As Questionable Tonight

Hooped Up | January 15, 2010

Trail Blazers All-Star Brandon Roy underwent an magnetic resonance imaging test on his balky right hamstring Thursday morning and has been diagnosed with a strain.

Roy, who aggravated his hamstring during the Blazers’ 120-108 win over the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday night, skipped Thursday’s practice and is listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game against the Orlando Magic at the Rose Garden.

“It’s a little sore, a little tight,” coach Nate McMillan said of Roy’s hamstring. “We’ll look at that tomorrow.”

McMillan and the Blazers will have to balance playing Roy on Friday — and risk causing more damage and perhaps forcing an extended absence — or being cautious.

Blazers Sign Randolph To A 10-Day Contract

Hooped Up | January 8, 2010

Forward Shavlik Randolph has been signed by the Blazers to a 10-day contract by General Manager Kevin Pritchard and Portland’s roster stands at 16 players — for now.

Right next to being a Lumberjack or Alaskan Crab Fisherman, playing for the Blazers this season has become on of the most dangerous jobs on earth as major injuries have ravaged Portland’s bench. Randolph already appeared in two games for the Trail Blazers this season, before being waived on January 6th. Good luck with the danger pay dude.

Randolph was originally signed by the Trail Blazers on Dec. 30th.
