Last Is First In The World Of Gilbert

Hooped Up | November 21, 2008

Gilbert Arenas is still probably a month a way from the Washington line up, but in the meantime the Wizards are sucking salt with the worst record in the NBA. Ya, the Thunder only have one win too, but that was more likely of a scenario than the Wizards current record of suckiness.  Still Arenas believes that finishing the worst can lead to being first.

“I don’t want to see them struggle,” Arenas said. “But if this is one of those years where we don’t make the playoffs or we finish in last place … that’s what happened to San Antonio and that’s how they got Tim Duncan and look at them now … and that’s for the better.”

USA Today

With DeMar DeRozan and Brandon Jennings available in 2009, Gilbert might be right on the money with that thought.

Arenas Gets Obama Ink

Hooped Up | November 10, 2008

Since Obama was elected President of the United States (sweet!), I’ve made it a point to answer my phone by saying “Obama” instead of “Hello”, because that’s how I roll. Gilbert Arenas has taken his Obama love a step further and got some ink to commemorate the historical presidential nomination according to the Washington Post.

“Arenas has decided to show his permanent support of President-elect Barack Obama with a tattoo. Arenas had the words “Change We Believe In” tattooed onto the fingers of his left hand in cursive writing. Then, Gilbert showed the outside of his pinky finger, which had “44″ inked on it.

Arenas shortened Obama’s campaign slogan, “Change We Can Believe In,” choosing not to add ink to his thumb. Arenas has “change” written on the outside of his index finger; “we” on the inside of his middle finger; “believe” on the inside of his ring finger; and “in” on the inside of his pinky and “44″ on the outside of his pinky.”

Arenas better save the other pinky for Obama’s second term…ya I said it…what?

Hooped Up: Washington Wizards 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 14, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 - 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Washington Wizards
With the East rapidly improving, the Wizards couldn’t have picked a worst time to be hit with the injury bug…again.  Agent Zero signed a huge $111 million dollar deal this summer and then promptly announced that he will have his 3rd knee surgery in 18 months. Antawn Jamison also resigned a healthy deal with the Wizards for 4 years $50 million and will now be the focus of the offense while Arenas recoups. The addition of Juan Dixon should help but, with superstar Gilbert Arenas out for an extended period of time the Wizards will have to  have a great second half of the season.

Projected Starters: PG - Gilbert Arenas / SG - DeShawn Stevenson / SF - Caron Butler / PF - Antawn Jamison / C -  Brendan Haywood

Additions: Dee Brown, Juan Dixon, Linton Johnson, DerMarr Johnson, Taj McCullough

Losses: Roger Mason

Projected Wins: 30+

Team Theme Song: Johnny Mandel and Mike Altman - Suicide Is Painless
So far Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood are out till December and Caron Butler has only played 43 games in the last two years so it’s only a matter of time for him.

Overall
With Gilbert Arenas and  Brendan Haywood out till December the Wizards will struggle early in the season and will have to play catch up in the changing East. However, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison should be able to elevate their roles to keep the Wizards afloat until the return of Agent Zero but for how long.

Jamison Will Not Miss Any Games

Hooped Up | October 9, 2008

Good news for Antawn Jamison and really bad news for Brendan Haywood.

“An MRI on Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison’s right knee Wednesday revealed he has a knee contusion and will not miss any regular-season action. Meanwhile, the news on center Brendan Haywood’s right wrist was far graver. Haywood’s wrist has a torn ligament that requires surgery to correct, so he will miss four to six months. The center, who first thought he had sprained the wrist, saw two specialists in New York on Wednesday, who both offered the same diagnosis. ”

Haywood Could Be Out Six Months

Hooped Up | October 8, 2008

The Wizards are without Agent Zero until maybe December and now they could be without starting center Brendan Haywood for six months.  Ouch!

“No word yet on Brendan Haywood’s consultation with another hand specialist in New York. We do know that Haywood met with another yesterday and that doctor recommended that he undergo a surgery that would put him out between four to six months. The injury is simimlar to the one Antonio Daniels suffered and played with last season but one key difference is that Daniels hurt his left (non shooting wrist). Haywood injured his shooting hand.”

Jamison Injured In Preseason Opener

Hooped Up |

If I had a knee injury that was compared to getting “tapped with a hammer”, I would be writing my will.  The PS3 gets buried with me though, vultures. If I turn into a zombie, I’ll need something other than a thirst for brains to occupy my time.

“Antawn Jamison, who went down with a strained right patella tendon in the first quarter tonight, was walking around after the game and said he is hopefully that the injury is not serious. Jamison is flying to Memphis with the team tonight and will undergo an MRI tomorrow.

“i’m not in that much pain right about now,” Jamison said. “Initially, it hurt like heck. This ice is doing wonders for me.”

Jamison on the play: “It gave out on me. I didn’t hear a pop or feel a pop so I didn’t think anything was torn but it just felt like somebody tapped it with a hammer. It was painful but once I calmed down and walked around a little bit, the pain went away.”

Juan More Time For Dixon

Hooped Up | September 24, 2008

Juan Dixon officially joined the Washington Wizards for his second tour of duty, yesterday.

“When asked about his team’s roster situation during a news conference at Verizon Center yesterday, Washington Wizards Coach Eddie Jordan replied by saying that team president Ernie Grunfeld had “some things hidden in his back pocket.”

One of things turned out to be former Maryland star and former Wizards guard Juan Dixon, who signed a contract yesterday afternoon. The partially guaranteed one-year deal is for $1.03 million, the veterans’ minimum for a player with Dixon’s experience.”

Gilbert Arenas Out Till December

Hooped Up | September 17, 2008

The news isn’t good for Washington Wizard fans today, as the Hibachi will be out of the Wizards line up for an extended period of time.

“Gilbert Arenas confirmed that he underwent a surgical procedure this morning that “cleaned out some debris” in his left knee. Arenas, who has undergone two surgeries to repair the left knee in the last two seasons, has been limited during the rehab process all summer and said he has planned all along on not participating in training camp or the preseason.

Arenas, who signed a six-year, $111 million contract this summer, said he plans on returning to game action sometime in early December which would mean that he’d miss at least the season’s first month. The Wizards open the regular season Oct. 29 at home against New Jersey and play a total of 14 games in October and November. ”

DeShawn Stevenson: The Usher Impersonator

Hooped Up | September 16, 2008

Delivered to your digital doorstep is DeShawn Stevenson aka the Usher impersonator. He can’t sing so he doesn’t which should be applauded and unlike every Usher performance the shirt actually stays on, which should also be applauded.

Channeling his inner Ashlee Simpson,  Stevenson delivers a lip syncing YouTube jem, from one of the studios probably located at the lebronjames750 world headquarters.

Enjoy!
