Homer News: Utah Jazz (43-24)

Hooped Up | March 16, 2010

Reeling Wizards can’t challenge Jazz
Thanks to a schedule that didn’t call for them to play in the first 60-plus games, the Jazz never saw the Washington Wizards team of Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler that made all the wrong headlines in the NBA this season.

By the time they arrived at EnergySolutions Arena for Monday’s game, the Wizards’ season long ago had been lost to guns, guilty pleas and recklessness, leaving Andray Blatche, Al Thornton, Mike Miller and others to pick up the pieces.

The Jazz took full advantage of a team in free fall, dismantling Washington 65-35 in the middle two quarters on the way to a 112-89 thrashing, leading by as many as 34 points in sending the Wizards to their eighth consecutive loss…

Served: Rose Gets Got By Deron Williams

I expect Andrew Bogut to win an athletic contest against Glen Davis, but I never expect Derrick Rose to lose an athletic contest — ever. So when Deron Williams went smashtime on him, I was shocked to say the least that the poster maker became the poster taker.

D-Will in ya area!

Buy Baron Davis’ Beard!

Baron Davis is the illest don dada you’ve ever met and Cash Warren’s best friend. He also has a beard that demands respect and he’s willing to help you hide your weak chin for the small fee of $5000 USD $29.99 USD (thanks Kate) to buy “Booms Beard” endorsed by Deron Williams and another guy named Baron Davis.

But wait, there’s more.

Ronnie Brewer Shipped To Memphis

Hooped Up | February 18, 2010

The Utah Jazz have traded shooting guard Ronnie Brewer to the Memphis Grizzlies for a future first-round draft pick. Jazz general manager Kevin O’Connor says the deal came together just before the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline on Thursday.

O’Connor says the Jazz have some depth at Brewer’s position, so they could afford to trade their first-round pick from the 2006 draft. Brewer is making US$2.7 million this season and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Deron Williams Will Never Die, Only Multiply

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

If you put a pair of Nike’s on Utah Jazz guard Deron Williams, he’ll multiple like a wet mogwai and dunk on you despite your best efforts to guard him — twice.

He’s just that good, but never — I repeat never,  feed him after midnight.

Derrick Rose Will Defend His Mad Skills Crown

Hooped Up | February 2, 2010

The Chicago Bulls’ Derrick Rose will defend his title in the 2010 Taco Bell Skills Challenge against Brandon Jennings of the Milwaukee Bucks, Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns and Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz, as part of NBA All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 13, at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The 2010 field features three of the event’s six previous winners.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge was introduced at NBA All-Star 2003 in Atlanta and features four players competing in a two-round timed “obstacle course” consisting of dribbling, passing and shooting stations. All players must observe basic NBA ball-handling rules while completing the course. The two players with the fastest times from the first round advance to the finals with the order of competition determined by inverse order of the first round times. At the discretion of the referee, television instant replay may be consulted for clarification of rules compliance.

Sundiata Gaines Sinks The Cavaliers

Who would have thought that with the game on the line against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sundiata Gaines in his fifth NBA game called up from the D-League on a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz, would be the hero sinking a fade away three at the buzzer to win the game.

I gotta feeling that as the Sundiata Gaines fan club grew over night, so did his chances of sticking around in the NBA with the Jazz did too. You gotta love it!

Served: A Drinking Game Gets Got By Brewer And Boozer

Hooped Up | November 20, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

When a guy with the last name Brewer gets an assist from a guy named Boozer and they both play in the dry state of Utah. It’s, a) Ironic and b) The base for the greatest basketball related beer drinking game ever.

Am I right or am I right?
