Spurs Sign Garrett Temple

Hooped Up | March 15, 2010

The Spurs have signed rookie guard Garrett Temple to a 10-day contract.

The signing Saturday came the day after Temple’s 10-day deal with Sacramento expired. He averaged 2.2 points in five games for the Kings.

Temple played nine games for the Houston Rockets under a pair of 10-day contracts, averaging five points per game.

The six-foot-six Temple has spent most of the season with Rio Grande Valley of the NBA Development League after the Rockets waived him during training camp.

Temple is the career leader in games played at LSU.

Homer News: San Antonio Spurs (37-25)

Hooped Up | March 11, 2010

Ginobili’s surge continues in Spurs’ win
Manu Ginobili doesn’t presume to know what it’s like to be Tracy McGrady. Ginobili has had injuries, but not a knee injury. He’s had surgery, but not microfracture. He’s missed months, but not an entire season.

Still, after watching McGrady feel his way around the AT&T Center in a New York Knicks jersey Wednesday night, during what became a 97-87 Spurs victory, Ginobili could sympathize with what McGrady was going through. This is what it looks like when a former star is just trying to be a basketball player again.

“He’s coming from a way worse situation than me,” Ginobili said. “It’s not an easy spot to be.”

The same McGrady who once scored 13 points in 33 seconds against the Spurs managed only six in 25 minutes Wednesday. If McGrady could take anything out of his 10th game of the season, it is this: People once wondered whether Ginobili could ever be Ginobili again, too…

Parker Suffers Broken Finger

Hooped Up | March 8, 2010

Tony Parker left Saturday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies with a broken bone in his right hand and could miss six weeks.

Parker broke the fourth metacarpal — the bone between the bottom knuckle and the wrist — near the end of the first half and did not return to the game. The injury apparently occurred during a scramble for the ball.

Tony Parker has returned to San Antonio. He will see team doctors, including a hand specialist, on Monday, March 8. A timeline for his return for his return will be determined later in the week.

Spurs Waive Michael Finley

Hooped Up | March 1, 2010

With no time available to him in the Spurs backcourt these days. San Antonio has decided to release former All-Star guard Michael Finley allowing him to pursue signing with another team, according to sources.

By waiving Finley before tonight’s deadline, the 36-year old veteran will be eligible to play in the playoffs for another team.

Finley signed with the Spurs in 2006 as a free agent and won his first and only NBA championship in 2007.

George Hill Aplogizes For Au Naturel Pics

Hooped Up | February 10, 2010

NBA players are taking pictures of their junk and sharing them via Multimedia Messaging Service at an alarming rate.

Last week, nude pictures of Greg Oden leaked onto the web reveling he still had one uninjured leg and this week, George Hill of the Spurs played show and tell with the ladies as au naturel pics of him hit the interweb via thedirty.com.

“A year ago, I made a mistake and take full responsibility for my actions,” Hill, 23, said in a statement through the Spurs on Tuesday. “I have matured and learned from this episode. I would like to apologize to my girlfriend, my family, all of our great fans and the Spurs organization.” Read More »

Spurs Coyote Hits 3/4 Court Shot Backwards

Hooped Up | January 8, 2010

The San Antonio Spurs mascot “The Coyote” can pretty much do anything on the basketball court and he proves it here by sinking a no look 3/4 court shot. The only thing that this mascot can’t really do is catch a rogue bat or be taken seriously as a grief counselor wearing that costume.

Served: A 2-4-1 Deal Gets Got By Richard Jefferson

Hooped Up | December 17, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

I will never tire of watching re-runs of “The Jeffersons” and I never tire of watching Richard Jefferson dunking on peoples world. As long as RJ doesn’t go on dunk strike like Vince Carter did a few years ago, we can always count on him to serve some vertically challenged sucker and sometime two vertically challenged suckers.

DeJuan Blair From The Spurs, Helps Out The Celtics

Hooped Up | December 4, 2009

If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. Get Flash Player from Adobe.

DeJuan Blair had the best game of his career last night, with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a loss to the Boston Celtics. You would be wise to remember those stats because one day it’ll be a trivia question since everybody will only remember that Blair scored on his own basket by accident.

Nate Robinson must have been cheering this bucket as he watched the game from Mike D’Antoni’s doghouse.
