Could Marbury And Spurs Be A Match?

Hooped Up | November 12, 2008

The Spurs are without Tony Parker for a while, Manu too and Jacque Vaughn is starting for the Spurs. Unless this is 1993, Jacque Vaughn starting at the point for your club means you need help and with Spurs GM R.C. Buford looking for a guard and the Knicks hatin’ on Marbury, could this be a match if Steph is bought out?  Well according to the New York Post, Marbury certainly thinks so and had this to say when asked.

“Who wouldn’t want to play for San Antonio?” Marbury told The Post last night. “To play with Tim Duncan, who would complain about that? That’s a great organization, they win championships. They have a nice system and I like (Gregg) Popovich as coach. I can play 1 or the 2. If I was a free agent, yeah.”

Chances are we’ll see George Gervin suiting up before we see this Starbury saga end.

Tony Parker Out A Month

Hooped Up | November 10, 2008

The bad news is the Spurs already suck! The worse news is, that Tony Parker is now out a month and they will now suck mightily! Parker rolled his ankle in a 99-83 loss (surprise) to the Miami Heat and an MRI on Saturday confirmed the damage. The Spurs are already without Manu Ginobili and are off to their worst start in 12 years with a 1-4 record.

Before Parker went down with injury he was second in the league in scoring behind LeBron James at 27.4 points per game, thanks largely to a monster 55 point effort against the Timberwolves helping the Spurs notch their first win of the year.

Spurs Finally Win

Hooped Up | November 6, 2008

After starting the season 0-3 which was their worst start since the 1973-74 season. San Antonio finally got one under the W column after beating the Timberwolves 129 - 125 in double overtime and  Tony Parker  was was on fire with a career high cinquante-cinq points and dix assist.

Parker joined Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan in the exclusive 55 points 10 assist club and said  ”It was just one of those games when everything you do - tear drops, jump shots - works, I’ve scored 40 in Europe and 45 or 46 in high school, but never 50.”

Guess who got some sweet Eva Longoria lovin’ after a big game last night!

Hooped Up: San Antonio Spurs 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 29, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 - 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

San Antonio Spurs
The team that has cornered the market on winning big games will continue to do so this season.  They didn’t really add anything crazy to the 08-09 version of the Spurs but you don’t mess with excellence. They have Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Michael Finley and the Greg Popovich system and that has been enough in the past.

Is it enough now though?

Projected Starters: PG - Tony Parker / SG - Michael Finley / SF - Bruce Bowen / PF - Tim Duncan / C - Fabricio Oberto

Additions: George Hill, Malik Hairston, James Gist,Roger Mason, Salim Stoudamire, Anthony Tolliver, Desmon Farmer

Losses: Brent Barry, Robert Horry, Demarr Johnson, Damon Stoudamire

Projected Wins: 52+

Team Theme Song: Nas feat Puff Daddy - Hate Me Now
Everybody wants to be the Spurs, but nobody wants to be the Spurs. That’s hate!

Overall
Hate on these guys all you want! When it comes down to it, they are the measure of success in the league and you got to go through them in the west to make your bones. Tim Duncan is maybe the best power forward to play the game and another great year from him will be on tap. Tony Parker is an all-star point guard and when Ginobili is healthy he will provide his effective inside outside style to this squad. The rest of this cast knows it role and fills it to near perfection under Pop’s direction and know what team ball is.

These guys are always in the championship picture and this year is no different.

Spurs Waive Stoudamire

Hooped Up | October 23, 2008

The good news is that a Stoudamire made the Spurs squad and the bad news is that a Stoudamire got waived.

“Salim Stoudamire was waived Wednesday night, after giving it a semi-heroic go on a strained left groin in the Spurs’ 100-95 preseason loss to Washington at the AT&T Center. “It was just my fate,” said Stoudamire, a 26-year-old point guard. “Obviously, it wasn’t meant for me to be a San Antonio Spur.” Throughout the preseason, Stoudamire’s mind was willing. His body was not. His bid to make the Spurs was star-crossed from literally the first day. ”

WAG’s: Tony Parker And Eva Longoria At The Emmy’s

Hooped Up | September 23, 2008

Tony Parker and Eva Longoria were at the 60th addition of the Primetime Emmy Awards Sunday, hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.  If you thought the Spurs were boring, you ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. Seriously, these award shows should be a hour long tops.

Are you with me?

Spurs Add Another Stoudamire

Hooped Up | September 22, 2008

The cousin connection in the Spurs backcourt is now official as San Antonio signs Damon’s cousin.

“Salim Stoudamire has escaped pro basketball’s burial grounds — the Atlanta Hawks — and now will play for a winner. The ex-Wildcat shooting star has signed with the San Antonio Spurs and is expected to replace the three-point shooting threat of Brent Barry and perhaps Robert Horry. In three years with the dismal Hawks, Stoudamire averaged just 17 minutes per game and was often slowed by a chronic ankle injury. His career average is eight points per game.”
