Wade Having A Hard Time

Hooped Up | November 4, 2008

Dwayne Wade cannot feel the beat of the rhythm of the night, so don’t ask him to dance if you see him at a Miami club ladies.

“Wade said he still is having trouble finding himself in an offense that features several new players to the rotation, including rookies Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers.

“I’m having a hard time with that right now, mentally, so I’ll figure that out,” he said after practice at American Airlines Arena. “Right now, I’m kind of out of rhythm.”

Hooped Up: Miami Heat 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 26, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 - 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Miami Heat
After a forgettable season in 07-08 the Heat hope to bounce back with a healthy gold medal winning Dwayne Wade.  The upside of being terrible was the high draft pick of talented forward Michael Beasley, who makes Haslem expendable if the right deal comes along. Shawn Marion will put up good numbers despite who’s on the court, and Marcus Banks, Shaun Livingston and Mario Chalmers will give rookie head coach Erik Spoelstra plenty of options at the point guard spot.

Will the Heat improve on last years record? Of course silly!

Projected Starters: PG - Marcus Banks / SG - Dwayne Wade / SF - Shawn Marion / PF - Udonis Haslem / C -  Mark Blount

Additions:  Michael Beasley, Mario Chalmers, Shaun Livingston, James Jones, Jamaal Magloire, Yakhouba Diawara, David Padgett, Jason Richards, Eddie Basden, Omar Barlett

Losses: Jason Williams, Ricky Davis, Earl Barron, Stephane Lasme, Alexander Johnson, Bobby Jones, Matt Walsh

Projected Wins: 35+

Team Theme Song:  Rick Ross feat. R.Kelly - Speedin’
Wade, Banks, Marion and Beasley are quick fast! The fast break in Miami will be fun to watch and often used.

Overall
Beasley will be in the starting line up before the all-star break, Dwayne Wade will have an amazing season, Shaun Livingston will make a few GM’s regret they didn’t sign him, Shawn Marion will be an eastern conference all-star and defensive minded Joel Anthony will supplant fellow Canuck Jamaal Magloire as the back up to Mark Blount but that isn’t saying much for a very thin front court. This season will be a tought one but the Heat will be better than last year at least.

In a wide open east they’ll still be on the bubble to make the playoffs but, things look a lot sunnier in Miami these days.

Wade Continues To Roll

Hooped Up | October 10, 2008

Despite the Heats perdre in Paris, France last night.  Dwayne Wade looked to be in top form. Get ready for an angry season from Dwayne Wade!

“Clearly Dwyane Wade has not missed a step from his Olympic form, and he said as much after finishing with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes. Wade has said he doesn’t want to overdo it in the preseason, but felt a bit obligated to put on a show during this two-game stint as part of the NBA’s Europe Live Tour.”

The Heat Sign Livingston

Hooped Up | October 6, 2008

Pat Riley gets a big point guard with a lot to prove in Shaun Livingston finally back after being sidelined the entire 07 - 08 season after a Joe Theismann like injury.

“After days of fending off reports that a signing was imminent, the Heat agreed to terms with the 23-year-old free agent on a two-year contract.Terms were not released, but the salary is below the $1.9 million lower-level salary-cap exception the Heat has remaining, with no option year included in the package.

Three days after Heat President Pat Riley insisted the potential addition of Livingston was a “dead issue,” Riley added the type of tall ballhandler he has coveted since his days guiding Magic Johnson with the Lakers.”

Livingston And Heat Are Close To Deal

Hooped Up | October 3, 2008

After a summer of speculation and a few teams kicking the tires on Shaun Livingston, it looks like the Miami Heat are close to signing the 6′8″ point guard.

“Free agent Shaun Livingston is on the verge of joining the Heat. The former Clippers point guard, a source said, will meet with Heat management today, at which time he is expected to be added to the roster. The Heat, which currently has the NBA maximum of 20 players in training camp, will have to make a minor personnel move to create roster space.”

Wade Lacks Trust In Heat Point Guards

Hooped Up | September 29, 2008

If you are fighting for the starting point guard job in Miami, the pressure just got cranked up.

“Dwyane Wade led the NBA in turnovers last season. He might already be on pace this season to lead the way in patience with a group of untested point guards. Wade said it would take longer than a month of training camp to develop trust with any of theHeat’s contenders to start alongside him in the backcourt. Barring a trade, Wade is faced with correcting turnovers while trying to develop chemistry with rookie point guard Mario Chalmers, third-year backup Chris Quinn and career reserve Marcus Banks. Wade had spent the past three seasons playing alongside established veteran point guards Jason Williams and Gary Payton.”

Zo Named Voice of UM Transplant Program

Hooped Up |

Alonzo Mourning, the Miami Heat center who received a kidney transplant in 2003, is turning his attention to raising awareness of organ transplantation. On Thursday, he signed on as spokesman for the Miami Transplant Institute at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. ‘I’m a living testimony that transplants save lives,’ he said. Since its founding in 1979, the Miami Transplant Institute has conducted 3,000 liver transplants and 7,000 kidney transplants.

D-Wade Is A Big D’Antoni Fan

Hooped Up | September 19, 2008

Depending on how long the D’Antoni experiment last in New York, this could be even better news in 2010 for Knickerbocker fans.

“D-Wade said he’d love to play for Mike D’Antoni in New York. “I mean, I love offense. Why wouldn’t I?” Wade said during a promotional trip to the NBA Store. “I love him. When we’re in practice, I love Nate McMillan, but I want to be on Mike D’Antoni’s team because Nate is preaching all defense and Mike is preaching all offense.”
