Nuggets guard J.R. Smith has been sentenced to 90 days in jail Tuesday night for causing an auto accident in June 2007 that killed his friend. Smith will likely end up serving only 30.

Municipal Judge Debra J. Gelson suspended 60 days of the sentence providing Smith performs 500 hours of community service consisting of visiting sick children at hospitals. He also must pay a $500 fine plus $39 court costs, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Smith was taken into custody immediately by New Jersey state police and taken to Monmouth County Jail.

Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien declined to comment when reached by phone Tuesday night by The Denver Post. The team later sent out a news release from Warkentien.

Personally, I really don’t like volleyball unless it’s women’s beach Volleyball for obvious red blooded male reasons. You can’t give anybody an elbow, it’s stupid to yell at someone through a net and mostly because Volleyball players have ruined many perfect for basketball open gym nights for me as a youth.

Now that I got that off my chest, Chris Andersen spiked this ball something fierce! What the heck was Brown thinking? I’ll bet if Shannon Brown’s lay up attempt was a daily newspaper, The Birdman wouldn’t even line his cage with it.

The Nuggets are heading back to Denver with a split after defeating the Lakers 103 - 106 in LA last nite and I fully expect this series to go the distance based on Chauncey Billups leadership. As young as Bryant is, he’s already a 12 year NBA veteran and he’s seen it all, still Billups was able to trick “The Black Mamba” with the oldest trick in the inbound book.

Bumped from the Pepsi Center because of the Denver Nuggets playoff run, World Wrestling Entertainment will hold “Monday Night Raw” in Los Angeles at the Staples Center on Memorial Day.

The event was originally slated for the Pepsi Center in Denver, but the venue is now scheduled to host Game 4 of the Western Conference finals between the Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fans with tickets to the Pepsi Center show can get a refund through Ticketmaster or exchange them for tickets to a new show set for Aug. 7 at the Denver Coliseum, said WWE chairman Vince McMahon.

More than 10,000 tickets were sold for the Pepsi Center event.

When Kenyon Martin ended up on a surgeons table, they doctors said  ”Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology, we can make him quicker, faster, meaner and (apparently) more Kobe reject-ee-er like.  Everybody that watches basketball should like love Kenyon Martin’s game just because he brings his best each night and a lot of players in the league can’t claim that.

It’s taken some time for K-Mart to be his same discount self again after micro-fracture surgery, but it’s clear that Martin is back to offering bargains.

Chris Andersen talks tattoos and with 37 of them, he’s kind of an expert on the subject.

Chris Andersen only played a total of 10:42 minutes before he fouled out in the fourth quarter against the Mavs in Game 3, but in trademark Birdman fashion, he played every minute hard! I’m lovin’ this guy right now!

Mark Cuban will ruin mothers day if he thinks it will get the Mavericks a win.

“Cuban said Sunday by e-mail that when he walked off the court, a fan was screaming about the Nuggets being “thugs,” so Cuban said to Martin’s mother: “That includes your son.”

According to Martin’s agent, Brian Dyke, Cuban spotted Moore amid numerous Nuggets fans and said, unprovoked, “Your son is a punk.” Regardless of what insult was stated, NBA spokesman Tim Frank said, “The situation on the floor postgame is being reviewed.”

K-Mart already plays ball pissed off on a good day so, any Maverick players that end up in traction due to hard fouls in game 4 can thank Mark Cuban for the pain.

What could go wrong with the Mavericks in this series simple has. With seconds left in the 4th quarter, Carmelo Anthony drains a three pointer to give his Denver Nuggets the win and a Sprewell hold on the series 3 - zip. All Mark Cuban could do was push a cameraman to show his frustration, but I haven’t check out his twitter page yet.

Hours later the NBA actually, admitted they made a mistake by not calling a foul on Antoine Wright to stop the play, but if he played to the whistle he could have at least contested the shot. That said, if you’re Antoine Wright don’t sweat the play Melo would have hit the smart dagger shot anyway.

The Mavericks and Nuggets series kicked off yesterday and Dallas ended up taking an L 109 - 95 and the man with one name Nene, lead the charge with 24 points, 5 assist and 1 soul crushing block on Dirk Nowitzki. So far this series doesn’t look like it’ll go past 6 games, but l hope it does.

I’m already getting misty eyed about the season ending in June.
