The Melo M5 Commercial

Hooped Up | December 2, 2008

Carmelo Anthony recently released his signature sure the Melo 5; and there was a mellow gathering of celebrity on hand to celebrate the signature  shoe in Los Angeles. Celebrities such as Mena Suvari, Maurice Greene, Ciara, Khole Kardashian, Tyrese, and Mekhi Phifer were just some of the celebs in attendance that probably left with crazy stupid nice swag.

Peep the commercial for the Melo 5 above and Ciara hit me on the cell.

JR Smith Is Bad!

Hooped Up | December 1, 2008

JR Smith is bad; and not bad meaning good, but bad meaning…bad.

“J.R. is a good-bad player, and we’re trying to take the bad out and magnify the good,” Karl said after using Smith for 30 minutes against the Rockets, when he shot 6-of-14, including 5-of-9 on three-pointers, and handed out four assists. “For me, there’s, as the game goes on, there’s a lot of ways I can try to win them. “And consistency, defense and a positive, good attitude would keep him on the court. But I don’t think he gives us always those three every night we play. Some nights I’ll tolerate his bad and some nights I’m probably going to go someplace else.”

Hunter Pondering Retirement

Hooped Up | November 10, 2008

Well this isn’t good news. Could Steve Hunter be done forever in the NBA because of knee problems before he hits 30 years old?

“Nuggets center Steven Hunter, bound for surgery this week, admits he’s thought about knee problems possibly ending his career at 27. “Definitely, that thought is in the back of my mind,’’ Hunter said in an interview Saturday with the Rocky Mountain News. “But I’m going to try to stay optimistic. I’m going to try to stay positive.’’

Nuggets Waive Howard

Hooped Up | November 4, 2008

Juwan Howard is now a casualty of the the Iverson for Billups trade but could be back in Denver.

The Nuggets waived reserve post Juwan Howard to make room on the roster for Billups, McDyess and Samb. But if McDyess is waived, as appears likely, the Nuggets could then re-sign Howard, whom Karl likes on his bench. The 24-year-old Samb, who hails from Senegal, has played in just four NBA games. The Nuggets might send him to the D-League, where he played most of last season.

Iverson For Billups Will Happen

Hooped Up | November 3, 2008

According to the Detroit Free Press, The Pistons and Nuggets have agreed in principle to swap Allen Iverson for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb. If the deal goes down, Chauncey Billups would give the Nuggets the floor leader they’ve lacked and the the Pistons would receive the automatic scoring kick and star power they’ve needed.

The media must be all over Cheikh Samb as the center piece of this deal for a comment.

UPDATE: This trade has been confirmed by the AP

Hooped Up: Denver Nuggets 08-09 Season Preview

Hooped Up | October 27, 2008

A team-by-team preview of all 30 NBA teams heading into the 2008 - 2009 season, Hooped Up style.

Denver Nuggets
Why would you trade Marcus Camby? Do the Nuggets know of a rebounding and shot blocking center tree in the Colorado Mountains?  Minus the yeoman contribution of Camby. Kenyon Martin, Nene Halario and Chris Anderson will need to step things up on the glass and play a higher level of interior defense. Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson will have to co-exist again on the perimeter and newly acquired defensive specialist Renaldo Balkman will pair with JR Smith to provide some needed energy of the Nuggets bench. Linas Klezia ain’t too bad either.

Does coach George Karl and GM Mark Warkentien have a method to their madness, or is this team in for a rude awakening?

Projected Starters: PG - Anthony Carter / SG - Allen Iverson / SF - Carmelo Anthony / PF - Kenyon Martin / C -  Nene Hilario

Additions: Renaldo Balkman, Chris Anderson, Dahntay Jones, Sonny Weems

Losses: Marcus Camby, Eduardo Najera, Yakhouba Diawara, Bobby Jones, Taurean Green

Projected Wins: 40+

Team Theme Song:  Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock - It Takes Two
It begins and ends with Melo and AI, and it takes two to make things as right as they can be in Denver.

Overall
This might be the year that Allen Iverson has to officially defer to Carmelo Anthony as the teams main option.  Hopefully the Nuggets just move AI to the point so he can use his vision to create easy buckets for his team mates more often.  Losing Camby is the big story here, Kenyon Martin and Nene are not the players they were before injury and Linas Kleiza earns his minutes by scoring, not defense.  Without Camby in the middle, the Nuggets will struggle in the west and retooling might be around the corner.

Regardless, this team is always fun to watch because of the Anthony and Iverson duo but the playoffs…kinda iffy.

WAG’s: Allen Iverson And Tawanna Welcome New Baby Girl

Hooped Up | October 14, 2008

Allen Iverson and wife Tawanna welcomed the newest addition to the family last tuesday,  Dream Alijha Iverson.  The newborn weighed in at 5 lbs, 15 oz. and she joins siblings Tiaura 13, Allen II 10, Isaiah 5, and Messiah 3.

With 5 kids that takes care of the Iverson family starting line-up, but will Tawanna want some role players for a playoff run?

Tinsley Dealt To Nuggets

Hooped Up | October 3, 2008

Jamaal Tinsley has a locker and nameplate of his very own, but its in Denver and its about time. If this Tinsley thing dragged on any longer Larry Bird would have started with the crank calls in the middle of the night and sending 20 pizzas to Tinsleys house with double anchovies.

“Locked-out Pacers point Jamaal Tinsley was traded to the Nuggetsfor Chuckie Atkins and Stephen Hunter, The Post has learned. The deal is contingent on Tinsley passing a physical. Chronically injured over the last four years (only once playing more than 42 games) and embroiled in violent encounters on three separate occasions (none of which he instigated), he spent all summer in Atlanta rehabbing his body and is said to be a great condition. Denver assumes his $21M, 3-year debt. Atkins is due $3.24M and $3.48M while Hunter is guaranteed $3.86M and $3.69M. Less than half of their total salary remaining is guaranteed.”
