New York Knicks Or Bust For Carmelo Anthony?

/

According to Tommy Dee of The Knicks Blog, Carmelo Anthony is only interested in playing for the Knicks in the event of a trade scenario or when Melo becomes an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2011. The Nuggets have had a big fat juicy $65 million dollar extension on the table waiting for Anthony to sign since June and he has refused.

“Again, I maintain based on strong information that Melo will not sign an extension with any other team than the Knicks…He’s confident that he’ll get paid CBA or not. Right or wrong that seems to be his stance at this point in time.”

The Nuggets are hoping that the threat of making less money under the new collective bargaining agreement will force Melo to play it safe and accept their deal on the table right now. Sure, $65 million is a lot of scratch for you and I to turn down, but let’s be real.

C’mon, even if Melo makes a quarter of that next season to play for the team he really wants to ball for, it’s not like he’ll be crying poor. All this saber-rattling about “lower” NBA salaries needs to stop. Some people can’t even get three square meals out there anymore.
