Hooped Up | November 27, 2009Allen Iverson announced that he’s retiring from the NBA. But is that really the last we’ve seen from him? Iverson sent a statement to Stephen A. Smith of FOX Sports Radio on Wednesday about his retirement. But, according to Smith, sources close to Iverson are saying he’s already having a change of heart after seeing some of the reaction around the league.

The NBA has banned former Sacramento Kings assistant director of scouting Jack Mai for betting money on league games, including those involving the Kings, Yahoo! Sports has learned. The league informed teams in a memo on Wednesday afternoon that an investigation revealed Mai bet on NBA games “limited to small amounts of money among acquaintances and there is no evidence that he ever attempted to use his position with the Kings to influence the outcome of any NBA game.”

Knicks team president Donnie Walsh disagreed with Ron Artest’s assertion that players don’t want to play in New York because they are “afraid” of the media and booing fans. Walsh did not return phone calls, but in an e-mail the Knicks president wrote, “A lot of players want that atmosphere as well.” Coach Mike D’Antoni said he didn’t think the New York spotlight is too bright for a player to perform effectively.
