No way. This year NBA Live is way better. I played both demos and NBA Live has better graphics and real player movements. Last year 2K8 took the prize but things are different now.

It’s always 2K over NBA Live, ever since Y2K.

Live is for those who didn’t know 2k has a rookie mode. I used to play Live all the time, but the Big Bad EA stopped putting money into it, like Madden (all though Madden is improved this year). Sooner or later Live will move to another Team and start all over, falling further and further behind.

Oh man. I just got both games for Xbox 360 and I was right on my last comment. NBA Live 08 was missing a lot of things to be great, 2K8 was good but didn’t have very good graphics (Iplay on a 42 Inch 1080p HDTV)
Now, for 09 games: 2K9 looks exactly the same as 2K8 only a few things changed and it’s horrible hard to beat your opponent on starter mode!!! WTF?
Now Live 09 got all things right!!! The graphics, the moves roster updates, everything is just what I was looking on a b-ball game.

What game should I buy? I’m very much on the fence and I’m new to basketball video games?

well i thin NBA 2k9 is the better game. Yes live has a lil better graphics but overall the game play for 2K9 is wayy better and i play 0n a (52inch 1080p HDTV). but htats the only good thing about live has lil better grapgics

Have you tried to dunk the ball with Kobe Bryant on both games? Man, on 2k9 Kobe’s dunks are exactly the same as 2K8!!! On Live Kobe’s dunks are spectacular and yes, graphics are way better on Live.

2k9 is the best. On live 09, only the graphics have improve, but the gameplay is the same with all live series.

I love both games, but the selling point for me is that NBA Live 09 has much better online play!! The 5 on 5 play on Live is sooooo much better that 2K9. You can hardly play a game of 5 on 5 with 2K9 online because the lag is the worst!!!!!!

Man nba 2k9 is much better than live 09. The graphics are better, the shot stick is better, the crossover overs and all the other tricks u can do are much better, and the game stimulation is much better than live 09. Also in all the rating websites 2k9 is around a 8.5 and nba live09 is a 7.5 . The grapics of 2k9 on xbox are much better than live09. And also i dont even know why the losers in live 09 but tony parker on the cover, when there are so many other people who deserve it this year. also in 2k9 if u do the tutorials on how to take full advantage of all the controls ur game will become really good and u can do many different stuff. 2k9 and live 09 online play is pretty much the same, their are still trying to make 2k9 better. Also in 2k9 the home crowds are much better. In the last seconds of a tight game they go crazy by shouting defence, mvp, and many other sayings, and in the begining u can hear alll the boos for the away and the chears for the home team. the crowd can really effect ur game in 2k9.

the only thing that i like about live is the rewind feature, but that gets pretty boring after a while, live the graphics suck compare to 2k9 and the gaming stimulation is also much more worse, everything looks looks like plastic in love 09 and the game just doesnt run smootly, ex: fouls, buzzer beaters, jump balls, fakes and all that shit. live is easier to play but that makes it worse.

i bought nba 2k9 this year and it is way better. This year surely goes to 2k9 but next year i guarantee u that live will rise to the top, but this year it did not, so thats why is bought 2k9 this year and next year probally ill buy nba live 2010

if u have a ps3 or xbox 360 i strongly urge that u buy 2k9, if u have a ps2 then ur better of with live 09

2k9 is the bomb, if u enjoy playing with superstars like kobe, lebron, dwayne wade, cris paul, t mac and all those guys 2k9 did a perfect job in putting them in a game. all their moves and everything is exactly the same as it is in real life. 2k sports focuses alot more on the superstars on the game to make them perfect unlike nba live 09 were kobe has the same moves as any other player while in 2k9 he is a king. i played both 2k9 and live on a 1080, and 2k9 just amazed me while live was also good but not good enough.

nba live 09 is only for people who dont want to do much in a game, just dribble the ball, shoot and same old bs. while 2k9 is where u can do much more more by calling more advanced play, heat check and especially the tricks are more better and also my favorite part about 2k9 is that you can play 5 on 5 choosing any 5 guys u want, which when u play against another friend is super fun.

I have been with Ea sports and live for like almost forever now..but they stop trying to make things as awesome as they did before so this year Im probably gonna be playing the game that Kg’s gonna be playin

Why do all NBA games suck lately over the past few years? i feel like they are trying to make things too realistic these days or something and not focusing so much on gameplay.

i haven’t bought an nba game since nba 2k7… and the 1 i had b4 that was nba live 06…. and it just seems like nba live used to be such a good franchise like on maddens level almost but now the games are juts shit and no fun to play.

Have PS3 have always been a 2k fan as opposed to EA when i comes to NBA. But this year i tried out both their demos and must say that gameplay and graphics felt better with NBA Live this year. Bought Live and it’s gorgeous and animations are great. Just have to get used to a little different gameplay.

To be honest, everybody who says that NBA LIVE series is a good Basketball simulation game must be an insane inexperienced player.

NBA 2K is way way way better than LIVE series, the same way Pro evolution soccer was and still is way way way better than FIFA series. EA SPORTS really dont seem to be good at making video games!! their series are so fake and game play is so unrealistic compared to 2k and pes!!
the only game that is somehow a bit realistic for EA sports is the madden series. everything else sucks big time!!!! EA SPORTS SUCK and its time for them to pay the price of fooling us with bad video games and stealing our money with silly updates each year since 2000.
go 2k sports and go konami, you rule!! at least i feel im playing somehow real basketball and real soccer!! not fake stupid ea sports codes!!!

Okay speaking from a 15 year old who has been playing NBA Live since the age of 5 and for the past 4 years has been experienced to the 2K series….honestly….this is the hardest question ever. Both games have advantages and weaknesses.

NBA 2K9 is much more personalized and players really seem like themselves
NBA Live 09 may be too easy. You can go the hole almost any time

I own both games now, and yes the gameplay in 2k9 has more depth. But NBA Live is way better in graphics + the online in 2k9 stinks where as Live Functions rather well.

nba live 09…why? because it is realistic, from graphics(which 2k9 suck at) to the not “way too smooth player movements”, if you watch a “real” basketball w/ your naked eye, you don’t see smoothness right? im not saying 2k9 sucks but, they do.and the crowd, omg 2k9 has makes my eye sore, you’ll notice more of the crowd than the players, they’re moving all the time, and the sprite slam cam, have you noticed it? the camera from the backcourt moves when the player dunks on the front court? so yeah 2k9 sucks, and also their commentators who keep on repeating what they’ve already said in one game, duh?!

Someone has been smoking crack! I own a copy of NBA 2K9 and I’ve been quite impressed with its gameplay. Today, I took a chance (despite the negative reviews) and purchased NBA Live ‘09 to boot. And let me tell you (from an unbiased point of view), Live can hold its own against 2K9 on its best day. I was blown away with the presentation of the game and the style of play. Yes, some of the profiles/looks of the Live players are slightly off (LeBron, Kobe, to name a few), but I’ve witnessed plenty of misrepresentation and ugliness in 2K9 too. Yes, there exists in Live the “motion in the ocean” shorts and a few minor “wtfs” but the graphics, character profiles, animations, replays, upgrades and the Sprite Highlight Reel are on point. Throw in the awesome online play and you’ve got a serious contender in the struggle for Basketball Gaming Supremacy.

- And the “Oh, that was Sic!” award goes to NBA Live ’09’s DNA and 365 Live….Absolutely flawless!

- Live Academy is a nice touch. I remember days like that in the Practice Gym; realism doesn’t get any better than this.

- Live’s interface is sophisticated in appearance and it’s navigation is sleek and embraces simplicity. I feel retarded when navigating 2K9’s interface. That “back” button has f’d me up so many times!

- Live’s “swish” is a “swish” - nice net movement.

- Live’s soundtrack is a dunk! Kid Cudi - “Day and Night” ? - the EA brass who selected this track needs to be promoted. If you haven’t heard the “house/dance” version of this track, treat yourself to iTunes or search YouTube.

In summary, don’t get me wrong, I’ll give props to NBA 2K9 for a well polished effort that continues to get better. It is a game that I’ve enjoyed. But after reading all the reviews that placed 2K9 above and beyond Live ‘09, I had to experience it for myself. Today, I took a chance on Live and in my opinion, it’s got all the right stuff! As one writer/reviewer stated, “NBA Live has closed the gap.” In my opinion, NBA Live will dominate this market in the future if they continue to expand upon this well designed gameplay.

Yes, there are some flaws, but not to the point of ignoring the game. 2K9 has some birth defects too (graphics, online play, navigation), but it seems that 2K9 is always getting a pass (from the reviewers/writers). At the end of the day (for me), it’s all about graphics, presentation, online and playability. And as of right now, I’ve got to go against the norm, switch uniforms and become a “Trailblazer.”

NBA Live ‘09 gets my vote…as of today.

i have live on xbox 360 love it grafics are sick swo i bout a ps3 the othere day figuring the graffics are allitle beter so i picked one up and nba 2k9 i was really inpresed with the game play and the detail in the game witch probably got it the better rating but god the grafics sucked so bad it looked like papper i traded it in at game stop the next day and excepted the loss of my 25 bucs do love my ps3 but nba 2k9 should fix the grafic problem n i would be sold big turn off

man honestly< live 09 has incredible graphics, but the gameplay is horrible and isn’t even close to compare to nba 2k9!! The best overall feature that broke the barrier for me is the living roster feature on 2k9, THE NEW DUNK ANIMATION AND ROSTER UPDATES BRING THIS GAME TO LIFE!!!!!!!!! I LOVE live graphics, but 2k by far take to cake, it is excellet, especially if you are a hard core basketball fan, if not live is the game for you, but if you are a die hard basketball fan, 2k all the way!!!!!!!!!

Ok seriously NBA LIVE 09 blows big time.First of all the “Sweating Graphics” are so disgusting its like the players just bathe in freaking oil .The crowd are jst nasty every movement they make are so slow compared to nba 2k9, were the fans are swinging towels and bench players having huge reactions after great plays. I also find that the shot blockings are HORRIBLE on LIVE it really seems UNREALISTIC & i also find that its almost impossible to drive the lane for a dunk against defenders.What I like about 2k9 is that when playing vs, the computer it really gives you a challenge the points are most of the time tight & I also love the graphics on it seems really REALISTIC. I would rate NBA LIVE 09 a 3 out of 10 and NBA 2K9 a 9 out of 10.

Now I never really got into the Sega Sports games like 2k but Iv’e been an EA Sports fan since Lakers vs Celtics. To be completely honest EA was the first realistic sports VG franchise in the market but within the last 10yrs they’ve seemingly dropped the ball on realism and started focusing more on graphics and fun. They had a few complaints with Live 2000 and 2001 for it not being as simplistic as its predecessors so right around 02′ everything went uphill in the wrong direction. The games became more fast paced and easy to manipulate making it great for trash talking multiplayers but lacking in realism for single players in season and dynasty mode. The ingredients: Two crossovers a spin move then a dunk in traffic. Repeat! Viola…200 points a game! You’d have 2 guys on your team averageing 30 plus, blowing out your opponents by 50 (and up) and an 82-0 Dynasty record on Superstar mode. As if EA was focusing more on hooking first time players and not catering to its vetran fan base that was built on their realistic approach to sports VG’s. Now the graphics are solid except for every player that you create resembles a distant cousin of LeBron James and the All-Star weeked is cool too, however I didn’t quite understand the need for 10′000 different slam dunks. I mean really…who has that much time on their hands? Live needed/needs to spend more time focusing on realistic game play simulation and less time focusing on “NEW” game modes and “NEW” graphics. Every game is the same no matter who you’re playing. If the Suns took a beating last time it’s not like their gonna step it up the second time around no matter how much you want them too. I saw someone comment once “turn the cpu sliders all the way up and the user sliders all the way down and then see if it’s easy. He was right it wasn’t easy, it was stupid. It’s all about th A.I. and Live is just not getting it. So at this point and time I’d have to side with the majority and say that 2k9 is the better game and Iv’e only heard about it. The only issue I have with 2k is the shot stick. I prefer the B button over the analog stick with most games that use it as it’s primary action control but thats just me. In closing, Sega Sports has obviously taken EA’s position as the realistic leader of Sports VG’s at least where basketball is concerned no contest.

EA sucks donkey dick. Madden is the worst its ever been this year, NCAA Bball 09 sucks, NBA live is decent, but wayy to overdone, the only great game they had this year was NCAA football 09, and its the best game they have had since Madden 07.

NBA 2K9 is a solid game, not amazing, but solid. The gameplay is about the same for both, but the differnce between them is the fact that NBA live’s ratings are way overdone. Im all for the DNA system, but its just way to over complicated (plus the ratings suck like Garnett a 91! LOL). NBA 2K9 ratings are a little underdone, but better then Live. Live’s dynasty mode is better (2K9’s simulater sucks, I had a team of Lebron, Devin Harris, Elton Brand, Ray Allen, a drafted 87 rated center, a solid bench, and we were simulated to only 20 wins with no injurys and 100% chemistry at start of the year)

Are we playing the same game? My brother and I rented 2K9, played it for 2 hours, then went and BOUGHT NBA Live 09…

2 HOURS!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS? You only spent two hours playing 2k and decided to go buy NBA Live? Iv’ehonestly spent more time trying to masterbate. The only difference is I never gave up cause in the end I knew it would be worth it. There’s is no way you should or could be able to play 2k9 for 2hrs only and expect to be a natural. It’s way too realistic. However thats exactly what I said in my previous comment. Live is more catered to first time multiplayers who only care about graphics and fun. Thats how they get ya! No emphasis on realism or gameplay as long as its demoralizing when your stuffing it in your brother’s face. My idea of a great multiplayer experience is playing pocketball with two half naked gymnasts while wearing spandex…but thats not what I look for in a basketball game Now I agree, NBA Live 09 looks way better than 2k9. Hands down the graphics are better and its way easier to get a bucket… but where’s the cream filling? Live is like a high school cheerleader. It looks great, is easy to play but has no personality. So after your brother gets a girlfriend and your’e tired of blowing out teams by 50 you’ll be stuck watching SNL re-runs cause everybody else on your friends list is playing 2k9.

Did the same thing as whoopDscfonck played the 2k9 demo and bought live, even though I’ve always been a 2k fan. It´s was mainly the FIRST impression graphics that made me chose.

Now I have sold Live and bought 2k9 and don´t regret a bit. Just to say once you get used to 2k the gameplay graphics are actually better than live, the animations are better, it looks more like a game you watch on tv + the players are actually heave, so if you bump into one they actually fall or you yourself get thrown to the floor. As Live goes on that point in most situations you just fly straight through the Defence player and dunk the basket - and i hated those errors flying through a D´s arm, you would think Shaq isn´t just made of thin air.

I do agree that the cut scene graphics in 2k9 stink big time and it´s such a shame they didn´t put some more work into that aspect.

I´m not in anyway disrespecting Live it is a fun game just not realistic B-Ball feel. The online is better in Live though love that you can actually join a team and do tryouts online (be a pro) I really think 2k is missing that.

I would own both if i had the time and patience to be good at two b-ball games, but won’t play Live’s single player and that means that i would stink online.

actually what ım lookin for real life game stats.. playin 12 min quarters all star or superstar difficulty. ı m still workin on sliders main problem of nba 2k9 toooo much points in the paint ım takin cpus close shot n attack the basket tendencies down but cpu scores at least 50 from the paint .. if u guys can solve this nba 2k9 is great game .. cause of this problem ıll try nba live 09.. ı need maximum realism

I own 2k9 and love it, but now i’m actually gonna buy Live 09 cause i want it for the online play. Every time i go online with 2k9 it’s laging and it’s imposible to play a desent game. Also i think the structure and ranking system in live is so much better.

Im english and i know nothing about Bball, but i love it. judging on these comments, im gonna buy LIVE 09 because it sounds easier for an inexperienced player.

im still in confusion as 2 which 1 to buy…..i think im going with 2k9 but then again the be a pro mode on live has drawn me 2 live…….AHH ITS SO HARD!

Here’s my advice, i own both.

If you wanna play online and like to have a team with your buddies and rank up with that team go with NBA LIVE.

The BE A PRO in LIVE, offline is limited to one match so you can’t play a whole season. But the cool thing you can do Club Try Outs online and then you rank up by playin BE A PRO.

If you want a deep simulator a play offline season go for 2k9. The online i haven’t had a good experience with. A lot of Lag and you can only play single team matches which is not ranked.

i got 2k9 the other day. i immediately started playin online, it was difficult as hell. i felt like when i first started playing COD. there is so many freaking movements….ways to do everything….and most of the movements didn’t correlate with what you were pushing or toggling. i played for 4 hours and i still have no clue what i am doing. also it seemed the gameplay was slow as hell. it was like i was playing with a handicapped girls team. i like speed…and being able to drive, dish, and shoot quickly. you pass to someone under the bucket and it takes them 3 seconds to shooot.. and forget about alleyooping.

Yeah nba live is much better in it’s online play. 2k is so slow and most of the time lagging so it’s difficult to play a good game. To bad cause the single player plays really well.

Nba 2k9 is monster in comparing with live series, it’s the best basketball game on the planet. If you have high end pc specs it just looks amazing + the most important thing(gamplay) if 100 years infront of nba live 2009.

Ever since I started playing 2K basketball… live doesn’t compare… and i used to be an EA sports fanatic. Just like you one here, unwilling to give 2k a shot… once you do there is not even a decision to make..

Hey if you read through this you’ll actually see most people argue against both. I’m a 2k fan too and own both, but the truth is that LIVE this year is actually fairly deep once you give it some time and find out how it works.

I bought 2k9 for xbox 360 and I think 2k9 is way better than live because in 2k9 you can do better crossover moves and its more realistic game. I played both of these games and 2k9 have more teams in it. Also, I’ll say that fallout 3 is the best roleplaying games in the world and xbox 360 is the better than ps3!!! People LISTEN TO ME!!!
